I hate to tell you this, but it just gets worse. Generally, the books up umm.. Narcissus in Chains are considered the best in the series.

And if you don't like her now, you'll hate her later. Really truly. She gets worse.

Ho boy, thanks for the heads up. I've been considering having a go at the second volume, in the hopes that she had gotten some constructive criticism after the first book... But now I guess I'll just pass.
