Temple University offered a lot of extracurricular classes and workshops for its students. One of the workshops was on how to draw manga. Of course I had to attend it~
The teacher was Saori Takarai who's an artist for Manga University. It turns out she was discovered after starting a project to draw a mood a day on her blog. This project turned into
Manga Moods. I really like her chibi style, so I was super excited when I found out that she was going to be our teacher~
She had us start by drawing a circle for the head.
She explained the placement of the facial features along the cross that she drew in the circle as well as the direction that hair flowed.
She then had us draw a grid with 4 seperate eyes/eyebrow expressions and 4 seperate eyes/mouth expressions. She said that these 4 rows and 4 columns could be combined to show various moods.
She then did some freehand examples... which made me boggle and feel like I wasn't worthy.
But I guess that's why she's the pro and I'm still struggling. (T_T)
She did some more drawings...
She sketched them out so super fast. Afterwards, she posed for a picture with me. Just to let you know, I'm a pretty short person but she made me feel like a giant. XD This is me bending down to be closer to her level!
And finally our class picture. Me bending down (a lot) again.
It was a pretty fun and informative class. Afterwards, we were able to buy her books and she signed them for us. She's got this really cute three seals stacked on top of one another signature. If I'm not too lazy, I'll post it later for people to see. Still, this was a pretty fun workshop and I'm glad I signed up for it.
