VM FIC: Requiem for Uncomplicated (Dick POV)

May 12, 2006 06:00

Some post-finale fic for everyone. Dick Casablancas and his own take on the stages of grief. Post-finale fic: all the cool kids are doing it. It's like therapy, but cheaper. Also, did I just write a Dick Casablancas POV? I think I've lost it in ways I didn't even know one could do any losing.

This was great.

It really is gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day though.

Great insight on Dick, and poor Beaver.

Thank you so much. I hope in a good way. =) Although I don't feel sorry for Beaver at all!

HAHAHA!!! Honestly, that's one of the things that struck me about the finale after the dust (in my brain) had settled. Does Dick Casablancas have anything or anybody left? I hope he's still around next season.

Dick is not an easy POV to get right. Can't make him have too many deep and wordy thoughts, can't make the story sound stupid. But I think you got it nicely here. I love me some Dick fic.

Yeah, I feel you. I used to be big into writing Bright Abbott on Everwood, and Bright's another cheerful smart-dumb character, but the difference between Bright and Dick (and what made Dick so, SO much harder) is that Bright actively seeks to understand the people around him, whereas I think Dick is quite fond of his sunny little bubble and would fight insight tooth and nail.

I'm glad this worked for you. =)

I can't quite believe I never tried to trace parallels between Bright and Dick, because that is spot on. Dick doesn't have the same links with the so-called reality that Bright does. The Casablancas are not the Abbots, and Neptune and Everwood are very different places, but it's not that hard to imagine Dick being just like Bright if his parents were Harold and Rose, and vice-versa.

Now I must go look for all your Bright fic, 'cause I never read any and that's a sin.

Oh, the Party Pig is what connected the Bright-Dick dots for me. Bright would totally have, and love, a Party Pig. They're both cute, blond, slutty, cheerful and oblivious, but Bright's not a "lone wolf" at all and Dick perceives himself as one, so I think that's where the difference lies.

*g* At one time I wrote 30 Everwood stories in one year, but Bright's totally unrecognizable on the show these days in order to serve the Hannah worship, so my muse died of despair. I look forward to hearing what you think of those stories though!!! Thanks again for such thoughtful feedback. =)

fantastic! I am so impressed that you can write emotional Dick and still keep him ...well.., Dick. Loved the ending. Hard to pick a favorite line, but this was definitely in my top 10:

That one time I closed the door on him and Veronica Mars - maybe that's why she and Logan -

Shit.

Awesome job!

This was really good, it really sounded like a Dick reaction to everything that happened. :)
