I swear, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch is the next mega-popular magical girl title since Sailor Moon, Wedding Peach and Magic Knight Rayearth. The formula is generally the same. Three girls, magical powers, romance story, cute characters, etc ( Read more... )

I MUST WATCH THIS ANIME

Well, perhaps it's not the best option but... If you're really desprate you could try searching youtube for the titles you mentioned and see if anyone's uploaded anything. It's not much, but if you're lucky you might find some fansubbed clips or something.

Granted, this whole idea is hinging on one hell of a sketchy "grey area" but still, it's something.

Nah, youtube is getting sued, so I'm not touching it. Plus, I'm a patient person. I still got loads of other anime that I need to re-watch, like Slayers, first. ._.

I don't like downloading, either...

No problem, like I said it's a big grey area. But I figured it's worth mentioning anyway. I'm also not keen on downloading myself, hence I didn't bother mentioning it.

Having seen the first couple episodes of Mermaid Melody, I must say this.

Yes, the show is brightly colored, and the characters are somewhat cute.

However, I must respectfully disagree with the idea of it being "the next Sailor Moon". From what I saw of the show, the creators weren't even really trying with the story. The show was pretty much on autopilot, and as a result, the characters failed to get me interested. It has promise, but there's just, from my perspective anyway, so many flaws with the series that I couldn't enjoy it.

YMMV though, this is just my $0.02 on the matter. Hope you're having a good time.

I guess you can call it that, from what I've seen of the show although it's dubbed in Chinese and I can't understand it. ._.

I still wanna watch it, just because of how popular it is over here

If you want, I can try sending you the first episode over AIM or whatever when you get back to the states, and you can make up your mind about it then. You may like it.

Basic story is that a group of mermaids have to protect a bunch of "magic pearls", which they do by using them to transform into pop idols. Oh, and need we mention that a mermaid cannot fall in love with a human, or she turns into sea foam?

The fact that it's a magical girl anime and the characters are mermaid princesses is what immediately appealed to me. I read about it on Wikipedia, as I've already mentioned.

It's been airing on TV here in Taiwan since we arrived for our vacation in early July. I love the songs already.

I'll think about it. I plan on moving out once we return to California.
