Roses at Home-7

Kate awoke early the next morning. The windows were still open and the chilly morning air filled the room. Birds were singing outside and Kate knew any chance of more sleep was dependent on closing those windows. The sun had just started its ascent and that meant it was still very early. In fact it was far too early to be awake on a Sunday morning.

As cold as the room was, Kate was especially warm. And she was also naked.

“What happened?” She wondered softly to herself. A strong arm was draped across her middle and a warm breath played with her ear. Carefully she turned over and smiled. Memories of the previous day, and night, came back to her. William was sleeping peacefully, only his face visible above the covers. Kate kissed him ever so softly on his nose. He slept on, undisturbed. “Might as well get up then,” Kate muttered to herself. She stole out of the bed quietly and slowly and found a robe to don herself in. She glanced at the door and thankfully it was closed, though she was almost sure neither of them closed it.

Moving silently she found some clothes and headed into the bathroom. Her ankle was feeling much better and the swelling was almost completely gone. She showered and dressed and went back in the room. Will was still sleeping. Hands on her hips, Kate thought for a moment whether or not to wake him. A small smile played with the corner of his mouth and he seemed too peaceful to be disturbed. So she went about the room and packed all of her things in preparation to leave. Even when she dropped her tote bag, he slept on. It was now 7 and she had to leave by 8 to get to her parent’s house on time. She wanted to say goodbye to William but she didn’t have the heart to wake him up. The house was silent, even the maids hadn’t woken up yet.

Kate tiptoed out of the room, and down to the kitchen. She worked quickly and went back upstairs with a tray of eggs, toast, juice and tea for two. The delicious smell filled up the suite and William began to stir. She put the tray on the bed and sat down where she had slept earlier. “Good morning William,” she called softly. “I have breakfast.”

He opened his eyes and looked at her. “But I want to sleep more,” he mumbled, closing his eyes.

“I have tea,” Kate said. William sat up quickly, and in another moment realized he was naked.

“Sounds lovely,” he said, blushing slightly. “But er, give me just a minute let me erm, get dressed.” He seemed slightly confused looking around the room. He quickly realized it was not his suite and he would find nothing of his own here. He got out of bed and put his clothes on right in front of Kate, obviously not caring that she was seeing him as very, very few people have. He went to the bathroom and washed his face, and cleaned up a bit. He came out looking more handsome than ever, with tousled hair and a glowing face. “So what’s this about tea?”

They ate the food mostly in silence and when they finished, they waited for their tea to cool slightly. “When are you leaving?” William asked.

Kate looked at her watch. “In fifteen minutes. My parents called for a car to come pick me up and take me.” William looked away. “You know, you can still join me if you’d like to.”

“No, its alright.”

“Well, I’ll still see you in the city then,” Kate smiled. “Ice cream doesn’t taste the same when you’re alone.” William returned her smile. He put his arm around her shoulder and she leaned into him, resting on his chest. They drank their tea quietly, enjoying each other’s presence. He played with her hair and kissed her head every so often.

Somewhere in the house they heard a bell. The car had arrived. Kate put all the dishes back on the tray while William gathered up her bags.

“Darling, why do you have three suitcases?” William asked while trying to carry all of them at once. “You were here for two nights.”

“Well yes but I can never decide what to wear.” Kate answered matter-of-factly. She picked up her tote and jacket, and one of the suitcases from William and they made their way downstairs. The driver took the suitcases and loaded them into the car. “So I guess I’ll call you when I get back to London.”

“Yes but the question is,” William smirked. “Will you actually call?” He smiled, waiting for her response. She said nothing but kissed him softly.

“How can I stay away?” She whispered. He kissed her back and wrapped his arms around her waist. She dropped her bag and put her arms around his neck. He kissed her deeper and lifted her slightly so her feet were no longer touching the ground. Just when she thought she might faint from emotion, he pulled away breathing hard. The driver chuckled and got in the car. Hearing the door shut Kate was knocked back to her senses. “I should probably go.”

“I’ll see you soon, take care.” William helped her in the car and closed the door. His heart was feeling light and heavy at the same time. He was glad the good bye was quick because a longer one might have changed his mind about letting her leave. Still, tomorrow they would be back in London, and who knew what sorts of adventures would await them there.
