I wish that this musical were a book so that I could lose myself in it for a few days! (not to turn something cool from one genre into another that might not fit, but simply because I have no way of going to see it. :) )
I found the beginnings of a synopsis online: The show opens in the "nightly world of the dead and the dreamers", where Luigi Lucheni is being interrogated by a Judge as to why he has murdered the Empress Elisabeth.
Are you kidding?? It just sounds too good to be true. I love dark, richly beautiful stories.

If you want, I can find you some more material from it. There are a lot of videos on YouTube - there might even be one with fan-made English subtitles, though I'm not sure if any would be with casts I find particularly good. I'd have to check. And of course there are cast recordings and such.
I'm also not too big on the light and fluffy musical scene. It's nice for relaxation and fun sometimes, but I love something that touches me emotionally, intellectually and dramatically, and that's what I get obsessed with and see again and again. There's fairly much that kind stuff in Europe, though most people even here don't seem to be aware of how great the musical scene actually is, but think Broadway is the be-all-and-end-all of musicals.
