THe most difficult part of living, are the choices you must make in the end to better yourself. Human's are inherantly selfish, but society deems selfishness to be one of the worst of all crimes, therefore we strive to become less selfish. Some honestly succeed most of the time, but the rest of us stumble along the path to goodness. HOWEVER,

Society and human nature have always contradicted. Religion and human sexuality... Law and human instinct/desire... Politics and survival of the fittest. It's nothing new. As the saying goes: "Remember what the Catholics said; If it feels good, stop it!"

Whil it's true that the last 3,000 years or so have brought out the worst of human nature, it might be good to note that the 10,000 years before that were hunter/gatherer societies *dependent* on cooperation and general long-sighted altruism... so don't give up hope on human nature yet. Give up hope on society instead. It's more fun!
