Blinking and Squinting

I can't really comment on the DW/TW episodes last week, as I barely watched them. Though, I did see the Doctor's message on the wall in "Blink". "Love, The Doctor, 1969"... My first thought was, as usual, "That tramp". Then, "1969, of course! I'm sure he'll be very happy..." And then my mind drifted to a bad Austin Powers '60's. "DOCTOR! What the ( Read more... )

I have to say, I really liked Blink - although the guy in the video shop bored me to tears and I thought Sally could have done a lot better.

Re: SJA, I've liked that by far the best of anything post-S1 DW, much better than TW, and better than DW - which isn't hard as long as Tennant insists on mugging for the camera. I haven't watched it all, but I think they got the tone right on that one, Lis Sladen is amazing, and the kids are mostly bearable. I definitely am looking forward to having time to watch them all. Maybe this weekend.

Well, I've heard Blink's good, I just didn't have the patience that day to give it much more of a chance. One of those "What the hell am I doing here?!" moments. Also, even the tiny dose of Ten was not inspiring.

Well, so long as it's better than Torchwood, maybe I'll give it a shot. I don't know, though; my patience with them is pretty much gone. Well, maybe by the time it premieres here (I'm too used to having dial-up and an 8-year-old computer to fully take advantage of the digital age), I'll be a little more forgiving...

I'd give SJA a chance. I think it's definitely better than Torchwood. The characterization seems more rounded and healthy, for one thing (keeping in mind I've still only seen about half - still, what I saw I liked a lot).

I'm not sure you should watch the end of S3 of DW! You just might implode!

That said, I was somewhat heartened the other day to see an article in the Telegraph about The Best Doctor Ever, pitting Baker against Tennant, and there was a fair amount of "Hey, wait a minute!" in the responses. Quite a few sticking up for Eccleston and/or pointing out that Tennant is a very limited and "lite" actor. I quite honestly am boggled every time I see someone praise his acting for anything other than small stuff - he did okay as John Smith, and he was all right in some small parts in TV shows I've seen, but he just doesn't carry anything as a lead. Even in Casanova, I know I'm not the only one who found an old and rather decrepit Peter O'Toole far sexier and more charismatic than Tennant, who just didn't have the potential to ( ... )

Heh, looking back, maybe that was a silly question. I mean, I'm sure it's theoretically possible to be worse than TW, but it might be difficult... Okay, that was probably needlessly cruel.

I have already seen the end of S3-- I'd heard about SoD, and I couldn't resist. I liked it quite a lot, for all the "wrong" reasons, of course. That one I think I'll definitely watch again, to see if I still like it-- and if I'm figuring the times right, by then I'll definitely need a pick-me-up, no matter how petty. Everything happens at the end of the semester... Anyway, it's still the closest to consequences the boy's ever got. Ignoring the two 'episodes' around it... and the rather sad "Tennantization" of the Master...

Ah, good! I was getting worried. I doubt I've ever seen anything else Tennant's ever been in, but taking DW as an example, I don't ever want to... You could blame a lot of it the writing, but even more, he's just not good. My ignorance of acting is almost unparalleled, but it seems pretty clear to me. But these are all things I' ( ... )
