Fantastic, now I've got 'Jesus of Suburbia' in my head AGAIN

I don't have much time-- one of my finals is a ten-page paper due Tuesday, and I actually have a number of comments and things to respond to, the volume of which is rather new to me-- but I'll spare just a second to talk about 'Voyage of the Damned'. I actually kind of liked it, until it got me in trouble with my mother. I'll explain ( Read more... )

I think my eyes rolled right out of my head in VOTD. It just wasn't a very good episode - well, it was okay, but not up to "special" status, I don't think, though Mr. Copper was fun. And then we got Jesus!Doctor - again! - with an actor who is more suited to Howdy Doody. (Criminy, I get more emotional oomph out of the Muppets, I really do - Kermit can make me cry; hell, even Piggy has more complexity).

I'm not religious, but it does offend me sheerly on grounds of taste.

Well, it was at least less obviously flawed than a lot of other episodes I've seen. Probably depends on what you're comparing it to. As post-S1 stuff, it wasn't bad. Except for Tennant. And the Doctor. And that scene. Sweet lord. I've never understood how the religious conservatives pick what they're going to get offended by, because whenever I see something that they'd actually have reason to get angry about, they're nowhere to be found.

Gilded robot angels. From another planet. The damn camera work they were using... What are they thinking? Or am I giving them too much credit assuming they're thinking at all? "Ooh, let's toss in some Jesus, that'll make it all philosophical!" Gah, that just gets worse the more you think about it.

an actor who is more suited to Howdy Doody-- Come to think of it, he'd be pretty good as Steve on "Blue's Clues". "Which shape is Blue pointing to? Is it the Square?" "Noooo! It's the tri-angle!" "Oh, that's right, it's the Triangle!" It's possible I'd pay money to see that, out of terrible, base ( ... )

We're not crazy and we're not alone.

See?

Note that he's not exactly Joe Blow in terms of his background.

*grin* 's about time. So that makes what, three? ^~ I know, I know, real number's probably more like ten or twelve. ^^

The lack of dignity; there's a good point... I think he might've been being unfair to cartoons. The better half of them, at any rate. Take Bugs Bunny. Bugs Bunny had panache. ^^ Even Daffy Duck...

I actually saw another, similar post (more a regular blogger-type) yesterday, but I forgot to note down the link! I do think the Americans are a little less gaga over Tennant than the Brits (I'm talking media). I do notice quite a few of them managing to mention Eccleston even now.

But, yeah. It's funny, someone on my LJ just last night commented that since she noticed certain mannerisms in The Infinite Quest, she can't see Tennant as anything other than a cartoon!
