I found out last week that my Step-Mom had breast cancer and has had a mastectomy. They have known for weeks and they only told me after she had had the surgery. I was shaken when I found out, but breast cancer has a high success rate, so fingers crossed. They will find out tomorrow if they were able to remove it all. no, no. it's perfectly reasonable and understable that you would want to be told things before/as they happen. life threatening diseases and lifelong commitments are not just thoughts to mention in passing. using your age and your school and work as an excuse is flimsy.

on the other hand, i am definitely pulling for her to be healthy and for all of you to be happy. i have a couple of close ones who have had and survived breast cancer (and other kinds of cancer) and i have much hope.

It's just gargh!! It's hard enough being so far away without things being hidden from me! It's not even like they were keeping it from the rest of the family just me.
