Buy electric dehumidifiers. Run them.

If you're getting condensation and mildew around the seams, the seal is not tight and needs replacing.

That would be every single window! I don't think the landlord is going to go for that.

The landlord is legally obliged - and you have the right to hire someone to do the repairs and take the cost out of your rent if s/he refuses.

Oh, and take photos of every window and the lace curtains as evidence; if your camera has a date stamp on it, so much the better.

My mother washes her lace curtains twice a year, and she's houseproud.

I was the same, I didn't know what it was and no one could/would tell me what it was or how to get rid of it. Found out what it was and how to get rid of it while watching How Clean is Your house?

I just bought a few of these last week.

It's slowed down the condensation on the windows and once I've cleaned the mold off the walls, I haven't seen it come back so far. I have only noticed one of them with collected water in the bottom but the other's you can tell they are collecting water in the crystals cos it's much heavier.

I would suggest one in each problem room, two if it's large like our through lounge.
