Fucking car

My car's brakes were grinding and barely working, so I brought it into the shop today.

Supposedly it had new brakes on it when I got it from the guy who sold it to me.

I got a call from my mechanic: $443 for new brake pads, rotors, brake calipers and hoses. Reasonable, but seriously car.

FUCK.

This after:

$3,900 to buy the car (in April)

Charcoal canister???

never heard of that... ever. wow.

$450 for brakes only makes sense if you did something like blow the master cylinder...

Charcoal canister is a retarded emissions thing that also affects my MPG. It's basically a $200 coffee can of charcoal, that thanks to Toyota loving the screwing of it's customers, can only be installed at an authorized dealer because of some programming BS with the car. So $200 part+ $95/hr labor=rape.

As for the brakes, it seems when you factor in base cost, markup and labor, it's about right. I'm going to trust that it was needed since this mechanic has been very good to me and my family thus far.

Just sucks terribly because it comes at a time that I'm already financially cripped.
