The grip on his shirt was nearly ripped it off his back. Proof that even as a toddler the boy of steel was strong enough to earn the nickname.
Teddy carefully pried him off and held him at arm’s length prompting the child to pause in his restless fidgeting and blink. Teddy blinked back, unsure of what he should do next. Apparently the child in his hands found the gesture amusing and startled squealing and babbling in excitement.
Teddy found himself smiling. ”So… what do we do, now?”
Billy looked up from the baby bouncing on his own lap and shrugged. “We wait. According to Dr. Strange, it’ll take at least 24 hours for the spell to reverse.”
“So in approximately 16, they’ll be back to normal?”
“Yes. Hopefully.”
Teddy sighed and continued gently lifting Kon up and down prompting more gleeful squeaks from the boy, eyes still fixed on Billy who was standing slowly, balancing Tim in one arm, the other child clinging to his neck.
“So until then it is our responsibility-“
“Ours?” Teddy cut in dryly.
“-to look after them. Make sure they don’t get into trouble. They’re vulnerable at this age.”
“Hard to believe with a grasp like his,” Teddy snorted as Kon continued to giggle and coo. ”By the way, the next time I say, “This probably isn’t a good idea, B”, will you listen?”
“We should feed them,” Billy dodged, shifting Tim into his other arm, the child still holding onto him tightly. He quickly walked past Teddy into the kitchen, the sound of dishes and pots echoing soon after.
Teddy rolled his eyes and grinned at Kon. “He’s so stubborn, it’s not even funny. But you know what that’s like, don’t you?”
In response, Kon gurgled and made a grabbing motion with his hands. Teddy laughed and hoisted the boy over his shoulders. “Alright, Superboy, up you go.”
The boy above him paused then started patting the top of his head roughly. Teddy winced. “Easy up there, alright? Don’t want you to fa-AH!”
The sharp tug of his hair was definitely not what he expected. And Kon was still pulling. Teddy yelped, eyes squinting in discomfort. If he were human, he was fairly certain Kon would have scalped him.
Teddy gingerly tried to peel Kon off. It only made the kid yank his head back prompting a startled, pained gasp followed by, “BILLY!!!”
The witch poked his head out of the kitchen, Timmy still in hand. “Teddy what’s wr- Oh.”
Billy walked quickly over, Tim clutching all the more timidly, glancing up in concern and lifting his own hand to try and free Teddy’s hair. He huffed as Kon resisted his attempts to assist Teddy. “You weren’t kidding bout that grasp.”
“Billy can we just-,” Teddy felt another pull so strong his neck cracked. “Oh my God. Can we swap?” He felt a twinge of fear spike through when one of Kon’s hands brushed past his piercings. ”Or just get him away from my ears?”
“Why did you put him on your shoulders?” Billy asked, summoning enough magic to gently lift Kon off and away from Teddy and into his free arm. Kon, for his part seemed to stop being so grumpy at the sight of Tim, morphing once more into a delighted ball of energy. Tim actually smiled in return.
Teddy rubbed his head and muttered sheepishly. “He was being cute.”
Billy laughed and leaned up, the kids gently pressed between them as he kissed Teddy on the cheek. “Why don’t you worry about the food. I’ll look after Tim and Kon. Besides, Kon’s usually better when Tim’s around.”
Billy arched a brow as Teddy starred at him for a moment. “What’s the matter?”
“Nothing,” Teddy shook his own head, a slow, easy smile working it’s way back onto his face. “I was just thinking… You’ll make a great Dad someday.”
The flush on Billy’s face was priceless and beautiful. “I never thought about kids before, to be honest…”
“Neither have I,” Teddy confessed. ”It’s just… Seeing you and them together- I don’t know, B. It’s like you were meant to be a father.”
“Yeah… well, I wouldn’t be much of a parent if I didn’t have you there beside me…”
Teddy felt himself blush as Billy balanced the two children in his arms. Teddy rubbed his neck awkwardly. “I guess I should go make that lunch now, huh?”
“Please,” Billy nodded, a shy smile teasing his mouth. “And thanks, T.”
“You’re welcome.”
Teddy bent down slightly to kiss him-
BAM
He found himself reeling back and clutching his nose as Kon laughed and waved his seemingly harmless baby fist around.
Billy gasped. ”Teddy?”
“Billy,” Teddy groaned, rubbing his injury. “Promise we’ll wait until we’re at least thirty before we adopt any super powered kids of our own someday.”
“Done.”
