Finances.

So...I'm getting scared. I'm scared we'll never be able to afford the mortgage on my measly salary. I'm debating about a third job. Yes, I said third. Sylvan doesn't really have the hours for me. I wonder if maybe Karen and I can work on that. Yuck. Meanwhile, I'm doing survey's like mad, poetry contests, and trying my hand at freelance writing. ( Read more... )

Thankfully my credit's not that bad! I guess it helps when I haven't been on my own too long. Plus the blessing of my parentds. :-)

Thanks for the wonderful thoughts, love!

Long response, sorry in advance! vio121 October 31 2007, 11:34:19 UTC
I understand completely. I have yet to even think about a house just because of the fact that I am going to be dishing out another $500 a month just for loans. So, for big money, it's $650 rent, $500 loans, $150 utilities, and still have credit card debt = $1300 a month just like that. Nothing else included like groceries, gas, emergencies, once a year bills that show up (registration yikes) necesarry shopping (you know, things that break or need to be replaces like Ryan's tires before the snow comes). We are just barely going to be able to make it. And then I think, how much longer am I going to be wasting rent money on something that isn't mine?? And I want to be looking, but at this point, it's just damn near impossible. I don't mean to bitch about my problems too, but I guess what I'm trying to show is that I do really know what you mean about being scared and not just saying it. My job is practically full time. It pays good, and so does Ryan's, it helps having two incomes, but it doesn't mean I don't get scared and wish I could ( ... )

I know! It's so hard some days. I've found that the more I look, however, the more I'm working towards it. I know that it's a far shot that we'll be able to do it, but...I need that hope, ya know? It's like with having a family. I need the thoughts about when and how many, how we'll raise them. It's that goal that keeps me sane. After all, I was the one that always found a way to get St. John's portfolios done almost a month before the due date. I've always been an early bird. I'm just hoping that it will all work out ( ... )

Something to look forward to and keep you sane. I do like that approach a lot. A family indeed. I know I wont be ready for a couple years, but I really have the loving heart and passion for a dog right now. Not a puppy, too much work for two working people, and I always felt bad for the older dogs that were always ignored and missed out. But there is no way that I want to have a dog couped up without his own yard to play in. And then, there's the finances. I would want to make sure he can see a vet, get his checkups and all the meds he may need, so not just yet. But it sure is a dream I have. But I am proud of one thing. Ryan direct deposits his check, so that ends up being check/bill money, then I cash almost all of mine for groceries, gas, and our one night out a week supper together. But, the left over I don't cash I have been slipping into our savings for Christmas money, and it's worked! I have a bunch in there, still not enough for what Ryan wants to do (he's such a spender, thinks about here and now, not about what may happen ( ... )

Have you contacted The Maine State Housing Authority? If you take a class through them for first-time home-buyers ($30 per household), they can help you secure a lower interest rate for your mortgage, give you money towards closing costs, and if it's in a rural area, actually take care of part of the mortgage for you. At the very least, it's very informative about the whole process and will give you a better idea of what to and not to do.
