This post is pretty unimportant to everyone except my relatives that check my LJ. Feel free to skip.
STORM
I hear the wind whoosh through the glade,
And the leaves’ rustling dance.
I hear the twittering birdsong fade,
And I surrender to the trance.
The heavens open to a thunder crash
The rain, in rivulets, pours
In the distance - a lightening flash
And yet more thunder roars.
Howling like a beast in pain
The wind shrieks across the dell
Fighting the beating of the rain
I hear a far-off voice yell.
My mother orders her child home
And I heave a heartfelt sigh
I am old enough to roam
But I hasten to comply.
Inside, I slam the door against the gale
And click the latch with force
My mothers’ worried face is pale
I groan with quiet remorse.
To put my mothers mind at ease
I take a towel from the shelf
To appease her sensibilities
I start to dry myself.
That done, I sit before the fireplace
My mind wanders all the more
I let the crackling flames warm my face
And listen to the tempest roar.
Something about wailing squalls
Really sets my soul alight
Even after my mother calls
And I am home safe for the night.
