Why Teal'c Likes Star Wars
"Teal'c," said Cam slowly, "please tell me we're not gonna watch one of the Star Wars movies every time you get to pick?"
The Jaffa regarded him evenly. "Indeed I cannot, Colonel-Mitchell."
Cam sighed.
They were the only ones left in Daniel's living room- the archaeologist was trying to stop Vala from wrecking his kitchen before Sam and Jack got back with pizza and beer.
"Then I gotta know why," continued Cam. "I mean, I like Star Wars as much as the next guy- unless the next guy is you- but every time?"
Teal'c raised one eyebrow. "Do you not see the obvious similarities between the characters portrayed in the films and ourselves?"
Cam didn't. "Does that mean I get to be Luke Skywalker?" he asked.
"He is most similar to Daniel-Jackson," said Teal'c.
"Huh," said Cam. "I guess I can see that. Both used to live in the middle of a desert, no parents, freaky powers. Go on, then, who else?"
"O'Neill shares many qualities with the character Han-Solo."
"Yeah, he does," Cam agreed. "Right down to the sarcasm- you won't tell him I said that, will you?"
Teal'c didn't answer.
"And you know that makes Sam Princess Leia, right? She won't like that."
"On the contrary, Colonel-Mitchell. Princess-Leia is a formidable warrior, as is Colonel-Carter. On many occasions, Princess-Leia acted with great courage, in addition to regularly commanding the fleet of the Rebel Alliance. Also, I have heard Colonel-Carter express that she feels toward Daniel-Jackson as a brother, in much the same way that Princess-Leia is the sister of Luke-Skywalker."
"Plus," said Cam, "there's that whole thing she's got going with General O'Neill and- you're not going to tell him I said that, either?"
Again, no answer.
"Right, I'm toast. And who does that make you?"
Teal'c raised his eyebrow again. "As a single Jaffa among humans, I find I can best identify with the character of Chewbacca."
"Chewie?" Cam sniggered. "The Wookiee?"
"The Wookiees are a race of noble warriors, Colonel-Mitchell," he said.
Cam was saved answering by a loud crash and Daniel's voice yelling, "Vala!"
"What about her?" he asked, pointing a thumb over his shoulder in the direction of the noise.
Teal'c considered. "There is no character in the films of which Vala-Mal Doran reminds me. However, in the many novels set afterward, there is a character named Mara-Jade."
"Yeah?" Cam didn't know there were books. "Who's she?"
There was definite humor in Teal'c's voice. "A former agent of the Galactic-Empire, who then becomes a pirate, but ultimately learns the ways of the Jedi and marries Luke-Skywalker."
Cam burst out laughing. "Seriously?"
"Indeed."
Still laughing, Cam looked up at his friend, "And me?" he asked finally.
Teal'c smiled warmly. "I feel you most resemble the character of Wedge-Antilles."
It took Cam a moment to place the name. "The pilot? The one who pulls out of the trench?"
"Indeed. In the novels, he becomes the lead pilot of the noble Rogue-Squadron. Although not possessing the Force as does Luke-Skywalker, he is a skilled leader."
"Thanks, Big Guy," said Cam.
Behind them, the front door banged open. "Carter," O'Neill was saying, "do not tell me the odds."
Teal'c raised an eyebrow.
"Okay, I get it!" said Cam. "We're them. I'm gonna go help Sam."
As he helped spread the pizza boxes along Daniel's counter, he heard O'Neill complaining, "Star Wars, Teal'c? Again!?"
Cam shook his head and grabbed a slice of pepperoni.
"Don't ask, sir," he suggested.
