Back to Work
For the first time in his entire professional career, McGee was going to be late getting back to work.
The surprising thing was, he didn’t particularly care. He’d just had lunch with the most amazing woman he’d ever met. Abby Sciuto was in a class entirely her own. She might dress like a Goth, but she was all sunshine. Not that he minded the short skirt or the spiked collar, anyway. On someone else, he probably would have, but Abby made the look appealing.
But, honestly, it was her personality that attracted him. Abby was so… Abby bright and cheerful, despite the nature of their work. And she knew computers. He’d known she was good, even when she’d only been a voice on the phone. Over lunch, he learned that she really was an expert, maybe even better than him.
It easy, talking to Abby. So easy that he didn’t even realize how much time was passing until she asked, “Um, McGee? What time are you supposed to be back at Norfolk?”
“About one o’clock,” he said. “Why?”
Abby gestured at the clock on the café wall behind him. “Because it’s almost one o’clock now.”
“What?” he asked. “We got here at eleven-thirty! It can’t have been that long, can it?”
Abby grinned at him. “Time flies when you’re having fun, Timmy.”
McGee smiled back, then asked, “Were we? Having fun?”
“I was,” she told him. “I don’t know about you.”
“Me, too,” he assured her. “Maybe we should, uh, do this again sometime?”
“Absolutely. The next time you’re in D.C.”
When he’d walked her back to the Navy Yard, she’d leaned over to plant a kiss on his cheek before she’d disappeared inside.
So, McGee was going to be late back to work.
He figured Abby was worth it.
