Summary: Jack tells Daniel and Vala’s kids a bedtime story.
Bedtime Story
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful kingdom in the mountains. It was ruled by a good and wise king named George of Texas. All of his subjects liked him, especially the best and bravest of his knights, Sir Jack.
Yes, he was the very best. No, that doesn’t sound familiar at all.
Where was I? Oh, yes…
Sir Jack defended the kingdom from a group of evil demons who wanted to take it over, and enslave everyone who lived there. A lot of other brave knights helped him, but he also had a special group that worked with him. First, there was a magician named Daniel, who was very smart but very good at getting himself into trouble; a knight named Sir Carter, who was a magician, too, but a different kind and even smarter; and a warrior named Teal’c, who had once been a soldier for the evil demon Apophis, who was not a god of any kind to anybody.
What? No, I picked those names completely at random. They’re perfectly common names. And if you want me to finish this story sometime tonight, you’ll have to stop interrupting. Thank you.
Now, the four explorers had many fantastic adventures together, and became great friends. Sir Jack was happier than he’d been since… in a very long time. He went places he hadn’t known existed, and saw things he’d never even dreamed of. He even fell in love, although it took him a while for him to be able to do anything about it, since Sir Carter was under his direct command. But he could wait, because she felt the-
What do you mean, get to the good part? I think this is the best part. Okay, it is lacking in action a little. We’ll just skip ahead a bit.
Let’s see… Okay. Well, after many years, Sir Jack gave up exploring to stay and help King George keep the kingdom safe from the bureaucrats and nasty court officials. The explorers got a new guy, Sir Cam, who was pretty brave if a bit overeager.
But on their first mission with Sir Cam, Daniel the magician got captured by pirates! Well, just one pirate, who had once been possessed by the demon Qetesh, then escaped and gone on the run. She’d been running for so long that she didn’t remember how to belong anymore.
She and Daniel argued. A lot. She lied to him, more than once, and generally got him into trouble, but he was a really smart guy, and he could see that she was really a good person at heart. It was just kind of hard to see sometimes. Well, as they went out exploring together, they realized they were friends, even if they did still argue a lot. And pretty soon they realized that they were more than just friends.
Yes, that’s right. They fell in love, and they got married, and then they had a whole batch of rugrats who refused to go to sleep even after their Uncle Jack told them a ‘real, brand-new fairy tale’, as requested.
Yeah, I love you guys, too.
