Hello! *waves* It all sounds super exciting! How long is the boat trip from China to Japan?

Usually 36 hours from Qingdao to Shimonoseki. But they rushed it through in about 30 this time because of a previous delay due to fog. The higher speed plus some rough weather didn't make it a pleasant experience for us, but it looked like it would be lovely with calmer seas. There was an on-board gym, restaurant, bar and everything.

Yay, you have LJ! Hello, lovely to hear from you. I have been reading your other blog, it sounds like you're enjoying yourself. So what are the plans for the next few months? Are you staying in the same place? And when are you heading back to these shores?

We're in Japan for 2 weeks. Would like to stay longer but the budget doesn't last so long here. We plan on getting the train up to Tokyo today, staying there a week, then touring Osaka, Kyoto and anywhere else that looks interesting and is within the bounds of the rail pass. Then we'll head back to China.

I want to go to Hong Kong and we know someone there who has expressed keenness show us around, then we'll probably get a long train to Kunming in the southwest near the border with Vietnam, which everyone says is beautiful, relaxed and with a very pleasant climate. Chris's parents are Passing through nearby Guilin for a few days so we'll stick there just long enough to meet up with them before pelting up to Nanjing to start our contracts there.

We're teaching in Nanjing for the next semester- until mid-July why which time the city is reputed to become a furnace of heat, then we'll escape to Australia where it will be winter, check out New Zealand because I've always wanted to, and come home!

This is our cunning plan.

Heya. I've been reading your Chinese travelog (although not commenting that much). It's been pretty interesting!

Why, thank you. One tries one's humble best. And one is hideously guilty of not having updated for ages but one will try again very soon to fill in some blanks.

Will be coming back approx August. A bit hard to say. Our job in Nanjing will be due to finish mid-July, after which we'll either go and explore Austrlia and NZ or rush back to Bristol crazed with home-sickness. Could go either way...
