Lunchie

To-morrow, I start my first day of my new job! I'm going to try to take my lunch into work most days, mostly because I don't want to spend my money on the overpriced mediocre lunch options in the area. But, I don't want to get bored by my lunch - do you take a lunch to work/school? What do you take?

My general lunch rotation:

Peanut butter and jelly sandwich, yogurt and a piece of fruit.
Ham and cheese sandwich, yogurt, and a piece of fruit.
Leftovers of all sorts.

It's pretty boring, but it does the job. The leftovers spice up lunch enough that I don't get too tired of the sandwiches. It works for me because I don't have much free time to cook for lunch and dinner. I'd be interested in hearing what other people do.

I take leftovers when available and a sandwich with yogurt when leftovers are not available. Fridays I eat out with the groupies. Tommy and I have been trying to cook Monday-Wednesday nights at home, so leftovers seem to be in abundance unless we make fish.

A lot of people at my work bring frozen microwave meals. I stopped eating those in college, but I guess some of them can be good. If you only have one microwave though, people will get mad at you if you bring in something that takes more than 2 minutes to heat up. And if it is a small company, DON'T bring in anything stinky. They don't like that. Some stinky items include brussel sprouts, shrimp, and fish. You don't want to be the stinky girl.

I'm with the crowd (of two) on this one. Sandwiches and leftovers are the norm. I always want to get roast beef for sandwiches but I've been really disappointed with the roast beef that Harris Teeter has been doling out lately so I'm off of that kick. Their deli sliced chicken has been very tasty though. Adding tomato, lettuce (or arugula), salt, and pepper makes sandwiches much tastier too.

On the leftover side, things like mac'n'cheese and baked ziti are always good (and easy to make in large quantities).

Penney gets bored with sandwiches much more quickly than I do.

My crew also eats out every Friday, usually at Long Point Grill.

Because I'm trying to get in the habit of eating 3 small meals a day, and 3 small snacks a day, my eating tends to be slightly different. I pretty much take some variation of things like yogurt, applesauce, granola bar. Recently, I started taking about 10 whole wheat Ritz crackers, a few slices of turkey, and some cheese, and making grown-up Lunchables at work. I also sometimes take Boca burgers. Yum!
