The Quest for Popcorn

Mar 10, 2011 10:30

I love popcorn. That doesn't come close enough to saying how I feel about popcorn. I have a specific ritual for popcorn when we go to the movies. I ask them for a small or medium (small, if I'm being smart) popcorn and to layer the butter. For you non-popcorn connisueres, this means they fill the bag halfway with popcorn, put butter on it, fill ( Read more... )

I really love popcorn, too. My daughter and I just bought a cute movie-style kettle popper at Costco, and that thing makes some freaking awesome popcorn--but it's definitely a special occasion kind of snack.

With all three of my kids, I never lost weight from breastfeeding. If I don't sleep my body holds on to weight like crazy. I breastfed my third until he was over ten months, and it was very frustrating to hold on to pregnancy weight that long. As soon as I started to sleep at night, boom, the weight started to come off.

I keep thinking one of those movie poppers would be fun to have. Maybe I'll ask for one for Christmas once Wyrmling gets old enough to eat it.

Ok, maybe that isn't a good promotion for breastfeeding after all. Wyrmling has been sleeping regularly through the night since she was about 2 months old, and really only needed one feeding a night before then, so I haven't been too sleep deprived, which probably is a factor.

Oh, super poop! How I do not miss you! (Although I do miss the part where it didn't smell...)

I envy you being within 2 pounds at 6 months later. I am *still* up 5 from my pre-pregnancy weight (which was actually up about 6 to 10 from my preferred weight range -- I hadn't yet lost my traveling-abroad weight when I got pregnant). Current struggle: Bug is *under* weight (she weighs less than Wyrmling), so the doctors have us feeding her butter (on everything), cheese, peanut butter, whole milk, and basically high-fat everything we possibly can. This is *not* conducive to her mommy losing weight!

I am still adjusting to the amount of time it takes to get Bug ready to go out anywhere with me. It's amazing how much longer it takes to do *anything* with a baby, ne?

Well, my pre-pregnancy weight was a good 20 pounds over my ideal weight, so I have LONG way to go yet. I'm hoping the nursing coupled with being more active with Wyrmling will help keep it coming off.

Aw, poor Bug! Wait. That sounds yummy!

We just recently made the microwave popcorn popper we had unusable. :-( How do you do it in a paper bag? (You will appreciate this -- I did not type paper at first. My fingers typed baby. Do not recommend popping popcorn in a baby.)

I'm not sure about the orange juice comparison, either, but it definitely doesn't smell like poop. I will miss that. :-) E went through SIX outfits yesterday. I think only one was a poop casualty, though. The others were spit-up or drool. In addition to the teething stream, she's been blowing bubbles lately. She manages to drench herself on a frequent basis. :-)

And yay for the weight loss! I guess it doesn't work for everyone, but breastfeeding worked well for me, too. That, and I'm a freak who usually loses weight when stressed/lacking sleep. I think I may be putting some of it back on now, though.

Just put it in a paper bag, fold it over so it won't uncurl and zap it. It does tend to burn more easily than with a popper, however, so listen for the pops carefully. I never knew about that until I saw someone try that in Carvin!

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to stinky poo either. Most of the time we don't even close the diaper pail! We'll be starting solids later in the month (if we weren't going out of town for a week we probably would have tried it this week, but figured nursing is SO much easier while on the road!).

Yikes! Wyrmling's been pretty good, averaging 2 a day, not counting pajamas. I'm sure when she starts teething and drooling (where ARE those teeth??) that'll change.

Well, it will be warm soon and you can go for walks with QE3!

Popcorn is chock full of fibre, which is good for weight loss. Or at least far better for weight loss than are Boston cream pies.

Unfortunately, I have a Boston cream pie in the fridge that is calling my name right now.

As you probably already know, I'm also a popcorn fan. A few months ago, I also moved away from the microwave stuff. I bought an airpopper and then just last month found this great site of gourmet popcorn (http://www.crownjewelgourmet.com/). You really should check them out. I bough several bags since I figure it won't go bad, but I've only gone through about 1 bag so far. I highly recommend the Crown Jewel blend. The taste is incredible compared to the generic kernels at the grocery store.
