so after a flight that took off way too early to be safe, we arrived in cancun around noon. i had never been to this hotel before, but my parents assured me it was the best they'd been to. and i'll admit i'm pretty confident in their style. so i walked into the lobby, and let them take care of business while i had to "take a walk" and pretend we weren't sneaking four of us into a room that's supposed to sleep two. so i walked out the door to check it out, and this is what i saw..
there's something about cancun, the water's a shade of blue that you can't capture in film, the sand's too soft for words, even the air makes you feel happy. so we unpacked our bags & went straight to the beach..
me & the parentals went to dinner at this restaurant right in the hotel. and dear lord, best quesadillas i've ever had. would have taken a picture of 'em, but it looked like a classy kind of joint. instead we took these..
it was at this moment i realized my true calling.. to make postcards. [as you will see later on]
anyways, kelly got in late that night, and we were all tired so we crashed early.
the next morning we got up, as with every morning after that to just relax by the pool. it was wonderful, the heat on your body, being able to read our books [we each had a stack of about three or four]. people were waiting on us hand & foot. every half hour we'd be asked if we were doing okay, if we wanted anything to eat or drink. it's unreal.
the first day we got dragged into doing water aerobics, which i won't lie.. i really enjoyed. that is when we first met Usi. Usi worked at the hotel & was basically in charge of making sure people had a good time. he would just play music & dance around the pool & get people involved in doing things. he went out with us a couple times. he was funny.
that night we went to margaritaville w. the folks for dinner.
they made kelly hula. bahahah :]
later that night we decided to go out clubbing. each night Usi & some of the other people that worked at the hotel would pick a club of the night & announce whoever wanted to go to meet in the lobby at ten. so we thought we'd try it out. we got all dolled up of course:
that was when we met chris, his sister, alex & mike.
alex & mike: two 18 year olds from new york. they seemed cool enough at first, but we quickly discovered they had a remarkable resemblance to the Tza All-Stars. not great.
Chris: on the other hand, was a very cool guy from the minute we met him. he's 28, from seattle, and owns his own insurance company. one of those "i really appreciate your devotion to my company, why dont i take you out golfing on saturday" kind of guys. a real sweetheart though. me & kel got really close to him over the week.
so we went to Dady O's that night..
this is mike
..alex
..and chris
the rest of the week we spent in the sun..
[aint she cute]
or playing volleyball. [and by that i mean kelly playing volleyball, while i watched & cheered her on, later discovering my HUGE lack of talent in this area]
one night we went to dinner at "Captain's Cove" this restaurant right on the lagoon where they feed the leftovers to the alligators & have the most beautiful sunsets..
i took a lot of pictures of scenery..
and the waiter made us napkin roses cause we're cute :]
or at least that's my reasoning..
that night we went to this club called "Senor Frog's", and it was crazy. they had an awesome raggae band for a while though. me & kelly really liked that. this one sketchy guy wouldnt leave me alone though so i was sort of itching to get out of there, but kelly was having a good time, she met this one guy & they really hit it off. he was really nice. i mostly hung out with mike's dad. haha. they had a water slide there which went around the ceiling of the place and dropped out over the lagoon. and mike was crazy enough to actually use it..
okay, this is taking too damn long..
i'll shorten the rest:
the next day me & kelly decided to do some arts & crafts.
so we painted. haha i did a bowl, she did a plate. they came out pretty :]
we're dorks.
the next night we went out with chris for more of a low-key kind of night.
but i enjoyed that night the most. we did some shopping in the marketplace, had a couple drinks at this bar called "Slices", started a dance party there, just the three of us..
we all ended up really drunk that night, so what else to do at 230 in the morning? but get some road-side burritos. i know, worst idea ever. chris probably ate about 10. i'm not kidding.
anyways, i'm running out of patience.. and pictures, but i'll leave you with this.
the last night we went to this club "Coco Bongo" which supposedly is the best club there, everybody raves about it. and it was really cool. they had all these shows, every ten minutes or so. say they would play a michael jackson song, someone dressed as michael jackson would be up on this stage pretending to sing & dance and all these back up dancers. it was really cool. haha at one point they played a clip of "the passion" on these huge screens, and then a man dressed like jesus swung across the club. it made me & kelly laugh for a good five minutes. but there were people on trapeeze and crazy gymnasts, it was like a circus and a dance club all rolled into one.
anyways, the point of hte story is. we took my mum out that night. so she could be one of the girls. and she was so funny. dancing with us & drinking. and she is a light-weight, by far. but we had open bar and she drank way too much and by the end of the night was so drunk. she was cute, i felt bad. she tried. so we got a cab & took her home.. and unfortunately my camera died at the beginning of the night, but i did manage to capture this..
yes! my mom, dancing on stage. in a club. drunk. score.
so we came home, reluctantly. to upton. the weather depressing, school work awaiting us, and the same routine as before. but i'd have to say that was the best vacation i've ever had. mostly because we made friends, and we were old enough to actually do things. plus, we ended every night with kelly's gilmore girls season 1 dvd. and c'mon.. what's better than that?
