hmmm, i'd be interested in seeing how the lump group "asians" breaks down in terms of specific asian country backgrounds.

i know, that would have been interesting. i'm not sure if you specify which 'asian' on the UC undergraduate application, though. in any case, that file defines 'asian' as "Asian Americans include Chinese, East Indian/Pakistani, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Other Asians." Probably the lamest description in history, what with the all-inclusive "Other Asians." how is that supposed to help?

...now that brings the issue of whether I myself consider myself Asian or Pacific Islander...haha

in hawai'i they all seem to call themselves asian. only here did i get into arguments about that. there's this one girl who is hell bent on calling herself pacific islander. i think that she does it to ex-o-ti-fy herself. on the same token japanese would be pacific islanders.
