Forcing yourself to read

In addition to critiquing each other's writing every other week, my critique group has a monthly (published) book discussion. We read MG to YA and all sorts of genres. Some of them we've loved and others....not so much. Right now I'm in the middle of a "not so much". I have read some RAVE reviews of this book (including one from a friend of mine)

Oh, I hate being in that position, especially when you've bought the book! For the most part I would say to let yourself off the hook and move on to something else, but since it sounds like your critique groups reads these books to learn more about writing, maybe it's worth sticking with it so you can pinpoint what's not working about it? Either way, I don't think anyone will judge you for putting aside a book you aren't enjoying. :-)
