Adriana had had the time of her life at the Christmas party and as soon as she’d gotten home she’d googled Jensen again despite herself. She hadn’t planned to and wasn’t at all thrilled by the way he was affecting her -it was way too intense- but his kisses were still fresh in her mind...and her body.
She could swear she still felt his lips on hers, softly brushing against her skin, and after fighting an inner battle, which lasted barely twenty minutes, she finally gave in and opened her laptop.
She couldn’t believe she was acting this way; she was totally head over heels and couldn’t stop thinking of him, his amazing hazel-green eyes and those soft full lips...Geez, what was up with her! She wasn’t a teen anymore -hadn’t been for a long time!- but the way she was behaving was typical of an adolescent. Actually, she hadn’t liked a guy so bad since high school!
She shook her head and laughed lightly at the idea while she made herself comfortable on the couch and focused on the pictures appearing on her computer screen. She looked at the picspams and let go of a sigh thinking “Geez, he looks as good in person as in the pictures!”
She went through a number of sites and ended up reading some gossip and news related to the blonde until she found a picture of his current girlfriend...a beautiful redhead.
She felt her heart sinking then and there. She slowly came to terms with the whole thing, and concluded that it was better she’d found out now, before she had any strong feelings for him, but it didn’t mean it hurt any less.
After their kiss at the Christmas party she thought he was into her as much as she was into him, but perhaps she’d imagined it all. He was way out of her league, there was no denying that, and she’d be fooling herself if she thought otherwise. Whatever the case, there was no point in thinking about a guy who was already taken ―though obsessing was a far better word!
She thought it over and over and over again, and finally came to the conclusion that it all made perfect sense. Jensen was evidently seeing someone. She couldn’t get why he’d been all over her at the Christmas party, but then she hadn’t heard from him since then and the only logical explanation was that he had a girlfriend. Hence, the sooner she stopped thinking about him, the better.
She knew it’d be no easy task, though. She was fully aware of that.
Luckily, before she knew it, Adriana was off to see her family, which turned out to be the perfect excuse to be away from LA and keep her mind busy with something other than the blonde.
So, when she got on the plane and saw LA disappearing in the horizon, she felt relief washing all over her.
Despite the distance, she still talked to Haylie pretty much on a daily basis. The girls hadn’t been friends for very long but they’d definitely grown close and were practically sisters now and they truly enjoyed each other’s company.
Days went by rather quickly, and once the holidays were over, Adriana said her goodbyes to her family, and returned to her new life in LA. Naturally, after the break, work had piled up at the office and both, her and Haylie, were awfully busy, meaning they hadn’t had any time to talk at all so on Thursday noon they decided to have lunch together and catch up.
“Well, any news from him yet?” Haylie asked.
“From who?”
“Oh, honey, you know exactly who I’m talking about! Jensen, of course! C’mon, tell me everything! I’ve been rambling non-stop about me and Jared lately and I wanna know how things are going between the two of you!” she explained excitedly.
“Well, erm, I haven’t heard from him since the party.”
“Seriously?” the blonde asked in disbelief before adding “But he seemed so into you. I mean that kiss under the mistletoe...girl, it was almost movie-like!”
“I don’t know...Anyway, looks like he’s got a girlfriend.”
“Are you sure?”
“Pretty sure. So, I guess the best I can do is forget about him.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry, hon, you really liked him, didn’t you?”
Adriana didn’t reply. She simply shrugged and her friend quickly said “Then I suppose it’s better you found out now, right? Before you had your hopes high or anything actually happened between you two.”
“Yeah, absolutely!” the brunette said smiling trying to mask her sadness.
She wasn’t in the best of moods. She’d really liked this guy and he happened to be in a relationship already. True, she wasn’t one hundred percent sure about that, but even if he wasn’t, he hadn’t called her or made any attempt at contacting her since the party and that could only mean he wasn’t one bit interested in her, right?
Adriana’s sad eyes quickly gave her away and her friend knew it was up to her to cheer her up this time. After all, she’d helped her through rough patches in the past and now it was her turn to return the favor. Not that it could compare to what the brunette had done for her, but still.
“Hey, I’m coming with Jay to this thing a week from Saturday and I’ve got nothing to wear. Will you go shopping with me this weekend and help me pick a nice dress?”
“Sure!”
“Great! I really need some help, you know. It’s supposed to be some kind of formal thing and I’ve no idea what to wear.”
“Don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll find something that’ll look great on you.”
The girls agreed to go shopping on Saturday morning so that Adriana could help her friend get the perfect outfit for the party. She was still a little bit sad and tried to hide it the best she could, but Haylie knew her well and could see right through her fake smiles.
They were looking at dresses and shoes when Haylie’s phone rang. It turned to be Jared and, naturally, the blonde answered immediately.
Adriana went on looking at the dresses while Haylie talked to her boyfriend.
“Hi, baby! (...) Well, right now I’m buying a dress for the party; Adriana's helping me with it. (...) What? (...) Oh, okay, I’ll ask her, hang on a sec.”
The blonde then turned to her friend and said “Hey, Jay says if you wanna come with us.”
“Are you sure? I mean, I don’t wanna be a third wheel!”
“No way, come on, you’ll have fun!”
“Is he coming?”
“Who?”
“You know who...Jensen!”
“I don’t know, maybe.”
“Haylie, please! We’ve talked about it already. I don’t think it’s such a good idea for us to meet again.”
“Listen, I honestly don’t know if he’s coming. I promise...besides, what if he does? You can come too and have a good time with me and Jay. Anyway, there’ll be lots of people over there you can talk to besides Jensen, you know.”
“Alright, alright! Tell Jay I’m coming with you, guys.”
Haylie smiled to herself and told Jared her friend would be joining them. She then took a few steps away to look at some more dresses and have some privacy.
“Okay, she’s coming, Jay,” she whispered.
“Good!”
“Listen, are you sure Jensen isn’t seeing anyone right now?”
“Yeah, I’m positive.”
“Because if he is, I swear...”
“Sweetie, I know he’s currently single...for sure, okay?”
“Then why does Adriana think he’s seeing someone?”
“I don’t know. Maybe you should ask her...listen, I can tell you for sure he’s not dating anyone right now.”
“Fine, I get it, but then why he hasn’t called her or got her number or anything since the Christmas party? It’s been weeks already!”
“Baby, I told you Jensen is pretty shy and maybe...” explained Jared but was immediately cut short by Haylie.
“Shy? Seriously? After that kiss under the mistletoe? That didn’t seem shy to me...at all!” she retorted raising her voice and immediately whispering back again on noticing the funny looks of the people around her.
“Yeah I know what you mean, baby, but, perhaps he didn’t have the chance to ask her number. Listen, why don’t you give it to me so I can pass it on to him?”
“Oh, gosh, this so feels like junior high all over again!” she exclaimed in frustration, which made both of them laugh loudly.
Haylie talked to him for a few more minutes and finalized all the arrangements before sending him a kiss goodbye and joining her friend.
Adriana saw the blonde walking towards her with a smile on her face and felt happy for her. It was pretty obvious to her that Haylie was falling hard for Jared.
“How’s Jared?”
“He’s doing okay and I told him you’re coming with us so now let’s go and get something suitable for our stunning beauty!” she joked.
“Okay!” the brunette answered laughing.
The girls then walked into a shop and started looking at the different dresses on the racks. Haylie tried several on and was having a hard time making her mind up. To begin with, there were so many different colors, all of them gorgeous, which made it increasingly difficult for her to pick one. And the color was only one thing to take into account when picking out a dress, then, there were different styles, lengths...
She tried several dresses on until she found a purple one that she particularly liked.
“Hey, sweetie! What do you think about this one? Maybe I could wear it with my hair up...like this?” she said pulling up her hair “what do you say?”
“I like it...but how ‘bout this one? I think it’d look so good on you!” Adriana said handing over a gold satin dress with a low-cut back.
“Wow! It’s so beautiful! Where did you find it?”
“Believe it or not, it’s on sale! Looks like gold isn’t in this year and they’re selling it half price. Anyways, I think you’d look gorgeous in it. C’mon, try it on!”
The blonde took the dress and went back inside the dressing room. A few minutes later, she came out and asked “well...what do you think?”
“I love it!” the brunette said and she was right. The dress fitted Haylie’s lean figure perfectly, and made her blue eyes and blonde hair stand out.
“You know, why don’t you put your hair down? I think it’ll look better that way,” Adriana suggested.
Haylie nodded and let her hair down before taking a long look at herself in the mirror.
After several long minutes, she smiled brightly and announced “Yes, I think this is it!”
“Definitely! You look stunning!” the brunette agreed.
“How about you? Which one are you gonna get for the party?”
“I don’t know...maybe one of those black ones over there?” she suggested pointing at some dresses they’d seen by the window.
Haylie looked at them and though they were tasteful, she thought they were a tad boring too. The whole idea of asking Adriana to join her and Jared was to get her to meet Jensen again -Jared and his match-making obsession!- and Haylie knew she’d have to persuade her friend to wear something more suitable for the occasion.
Haylie wasn’t particularly thrilled for lying to her friend like that but Jay had assured her over and over again that Jensen was into the brunette -just as much as the girl was into him if you asked her!- so she guessed there was no harm done. Fortunately, they’d all be attending a party so if things didn’t work out between them the way she and Jared expected, well, they wouldn’t be stuck with each other as there’d be lots of people around.
“Mm...I don’t know” she said casually examining the dresses, “why not something different, you know, a little bit...sexier? That red dress over there would look great on you!”
“That one? I don’t know...I don’t think it’s really me.”
“Come on, just try it on and let’s see how it looks on you!”
“I’m not really sure.”
“Oh, pleeeaasssseeee!” the blonde insisted.
“Fine! I’ll put it on. No need to make such a big deal, Hay,” she replied wondering what had gotten into her friend.
She got hold of the dress and walked into the dressing room while Haylie pretended to be focusing on shoes.
The blonde was busy looking at the different garments in the store when she realized her friend had been inside the dressing room for way too long.
She knocked lightly on the door and asked “Sweetie, you okay in there?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay, then, so why don’t you come out and let me see you.”
“Alright.”
Adriana didn’t feel comfortable in the outfit she was wearing...at all. She thought it was too much for her and wanted to take it off that very second and put on her comfy jeans and tee, but she knew her friend would insist on seeing how the dress looked on her and she guessed the sooner she could get it over with, the better. So, she took a deep breath and stepped outside.
“So, what do you say?” Adriana asked.
“Wow! You totally have to buy it!”
“I don’t know...it’s not really me. And it feels a little bit too tight.”
“Honey, it’s not too tight, believe me! It fits your curves wonderfully plus the slits on the sides let your thighs show a little bit but not too much.”
“Yeah, but what about the top...isn’t it kind of revealing?”
“Not at all, it’s like a corset, right? Perhaps you should put these cap sleeves down so that your shoulders show a little bit more, oh, look, you can remove them! Take ‘em off. There. Wow, you look amazing!”
“Haylie, I can't wear this.”
“Why not? You look so hot!”
“I don't know.”
“Sweetie, you look great in that dress.”
“Yeah, sure, just like some model, right?” the brunette said in disbelief and started posing as if she were a professional model at a photo shoot.
She kept posing and pretending, and quickly noticed that the people at the shop were looking at her. “Okay, Adriana, enough with making a fool of yourself. Everyone’s staring. I’d better get out of this dress fast and find something more suitable for me!”
She stopped her antics and noticed that despite that, some of the people at the store -namely men- were still staring. She also noticed the glares the women they were with -probably girlfriends or wives- were giving to her and she wondered what it was all about.
Haylie instantly became aware of her friend’s uneasiness and spoke reassuringly “Listen, hon, you have a hot body...and that dress makes you look even hotter. Every guy in the store can see that!”
Of course, the blonde didn’t finish her thought out loud “and if Jensen can’t see it, well, then it’s his damn loss!”
The brunette turned to her friend and asked “C'mon...seriously?” sure that her friend was just being nice and supportive.
She’d always been self-conscious about her body -actually that was putting it mildly!- a fact of which Haylie had quickly become aware of, and somehow she’d always managed to help her feel better about it.
“Hon, please take a look in the mirror,” the blonde said placing her hands on the brunette’s shoulders and making her turn around.
Adriana complied without protesting and what she saw left her speechless. At first, she failed to recognize her own reflection. She examined it carefully for a moment and couldn’t believe that the attractive woman looking right back at her was actually herself.
“See? I told ya it’d look great on you!” Haylie said encouragingly “Just buy it! You look so hot!"
"Really?" she answered smiling and slowly giving in.
"Yeah, come on, you do look great...I swear! Just buy it so we can go shoe shopping! I saw some strapped heels that will look perfect with my dress and I'm sure we'll find something for you too.”
“Okay, okay, I'll take it then.”
Please review! Thanks! :-)
