Chapter 6:
Sam had been working at the diner for a few weeks and she’d taken the Saturday shift as it meant more money. Dean hadn’t made any further remarks regarding her job and she supposed he’d come to terms with it. He continued acting coldly and Sam thought perhaps he simply didn’t care. She didn’t tell him, but deep down she was hurting. She missed him terribly: their silly jokes, their movie nights, the way he called her Sammy and ruffled her hair. She truly missed her brother but it seemed it wasn’t mutual anymore as he seemed completely indifferent around her.
She started considering the possibility that he’d grown tired of her. She’d become his responsibility when he was still too young and perhaps he’d just had enough of it. She knew how much he’d always done for her and she truly appreciated it, but his dad had asked too much of him and maybe he’d finally resented it. He never looked at her now and even when they were together in the cabin, which wasn’t that often, he ignored her: he read his magazines or watched television and hardly acknowledged her presence. They didn’t actually talk anymore and she felt her heart sinking when she realized she was losing him.
“It’s better this way,” she told herself “if things go well, I’ll probably be leaving for college in a year and a half…and it’ll hurt less if we’re not close anymore. It’s better this way, for both of us.” Lately, that had become her mantra. Every time she felt her heart aching, she’d say those words in her head over and over again until she calmed down and pretended nothing was wrong.
Dean noticed that the guys at work never missed lunch at the diner on Saturdays. He couldn’t help overhearing them talking about the hot waitresses working there, especially the perky brunette, and how badly they’d love to “bend her over the hood of a car and give it real hard to her”.
He’d been avoiding the diner ever since Sam had started working there because, well, he wanted to avoid her. It was already bad enough having to sit around the cabin and act cool like nothing was wrong, like he wasn’t lusting after her, his baby sister. However, that particular Saturday, the guys had insisted all morning on having lunch at the diner and Dean finally gave in. They sat at a booth and looked around waiting for their order to be taken. Then, Dean noticed Mark’s lustful look and his sardonic smile.
“What is it, Mark?” Dean asked trying to spot the girl who had turned him on like that.
“Over there,” Mark answered pointing at a dark-haired waitress.
Dean looked up and down at her: hour-glass figure, shapely legs, small but curvy, and said “Nice ass!”
“Yeah, just wait till you see her rack!” the other guy added.
Then, the girl turned around and Dean felt his jaw go slack. The hot brunette they all were drooling over -himself included- was Sam, his Sammy. He was so shocked he couldn’t make his mouth form any words and then he heard the guys making more remarks about her.
“Man, I’m totally banging that chick!”
“Really? Pick a number and get in line…that sweet ass is all mine!”
Dean gave them a murderous look and said “Hey! Watch your mouths! That’s my kid sister! And she’s only 16!”
The two men looked at Dean wide-eyed and completely astonished. There was a long awkward silence, which was interrupted by Sam.
“Hey, Dean! So, what are you having?” she asked looking at her notepad ready to jot down their order.
Dean caught the guys licking their lips while they stared at her breasts and he kicked them both under the table. The men instinctively turned their attention to their menus and ordered their meals.
“Ok, so that’s two cheeseburgers and fries. How about you, Dean? Bacon and cheese?” she asked looking at him in the eye.
Dean shifted his eyes towards her and replied smiling “yep, plus fries, and throw in some pie, Sammy.”
“It’s Sam, Dean,” she corrected him rolling her eyes. “Beer, right?” She asked looking at the other two men.
All three nodded and she left. They remained silent for the rest of their meal and stuffed their mouths with food to avoid uncomfortable conversation. Dean knew the guys were still ogling her when he wasn’t looking so he kept his eyes fixed on them as a warning. He was the youngest of the three, but he looked extremely dangerous at the moment. There was no way he was going to let any of those two douche bags lay a finger on his sister.
He had to admit, though, that she looked really hot in her blue uniform. It fitted her curvy body nicely and the skirt showed a little bit too much of her shapely legs. She was wearing her hair up but some bangs fell over her neck and face and made it look even softer and lovelier.
Dean was really pissed at the guys, but deep down he understood them, she was really hot. It was no excuse for them, though, and as soon as they were done with their meal, they left the diner, secretly promising not to come back…at least not when Dean was around.
