Even in the rough draft, there is this feeling that the bakery, and making breads, pastry, and sweets saved Pete's life. That concentrating on that is where he channels his energy. Kneading dough is super calming, and that is the first thing I thought when reading the draft.
There is a point when Brendon comes across Gabe and Pete in an unexpected embrace. It is a powerful image for him.
