How weird is this:
Murder is the only crime that does not increase during the full moon. Theft, disorderly conduct, larceny, armed robbery, assault and battery, and rape all statistically increase dramatically during the full moon.

If that's not proof of something magical around the full moon what is?

First, correlations don't establish causality. Then, a link to your source(s) would be nice.

ok so it's probably not the most accurate fact, off www.hookedonfacts.com.
And yer but why would there be a correlation if there wasn't a link somewhere along the line?

Thanks.

That website... it depends on submisions. I think their facts are as trustworthy as the people who submit them. From bonafide facts to outright lies, and everythig in between.

And yer but why would there be a correlation if there wasn't a link somewhere along the line?

Even if it makes you wonder, we cannot affirm (or deny) anything until a rigorous screenign process removes any alternate explanations.

That is incorrect. Studies have shown crime does not increase during the full moon.

Further, the main interest in the full moon came from the fact that some predatory animals are more active during the full moon, since it provides more light for hunting. The idea was to see if we too are effected insitnctively by this, not "magically".

hahahah, magic

Okay, but seriously, they actually had us watch a video of "myths" in sociology class. They mentioned that the "full moon causes crime to go up" is indeed, a myth, statistically speaking.

ditto to hollowman^.

but why would there be a correlation if there wasn't a link somewhere along the line?
the time old, "correlation does not prove causality", pretty much is your answer. there are 3 criteria for proving causality: correalation, time order, and nonspurious.
as studies have shown, while there is a precieved correlation between the full moon and human behavior and proper time order (full moon happens first, and then more crimes), to say that the full moon causes a rise in crime is spurious. is false. there are many other factors to consider. anything from simple projection of expectations to, indeed, there just being more light outside.

alas, there is no room for magic in sociology.

It's not proof.
You made a correlation.

Let me elaborate.

All rapists were found to consume water at one point in their life.
Therefore consuming water must mean you are a rapist.
