It's probably at it's most stark this season, which I find really wonderful, even if it's part of the reason they're so completely at each others' throats (which... I also love). I love that all the other stuff, the external factors that forced them into the life, have pretty much been stripped away at this point. So now it's mostly internal. Sure, there's the idea they could close hell, but it's not like they've been *chosen* to do it. I liked season 6 for the idea that the Winchesters were mostly pawns in the larger battle and I thought season 7 fell down on really running with that idea that, you know, it's totally ridiculous to expect two dudes to save the world from something like Leviathans but the root of the idea is still there. And this season, the idea of, from Dean's POV so far, RIDDING THE WORLD OF THE THING THAT STARTED OFF ALL YOUR PROBLEMS IN LIFE is just painful. On one hand, yeah, shutting hell is something worth doing if you can. On the other, it's never going to fix what happened to you and your family, Dean. ;___;
( ... )
I SO WISH SPN WOULD DO MORE OF THIS KIND OF THING GOOOODDDD. I mean, otoh I'm kind of glad they don't given Hammer of the Gods. But.
Maybe there is one hell that is shared, maybe there are many hells and Sam and Dean close the one and then are like WHY ARE THERE STILL DEMONS and oh, sorry, we're just not from YOUR hell! And maybe Meg goes to visit other hells because she gets lonely being the only of her kind of demon left outside. IDK IDK.
