Learned something new today! Mudpuppies are kinda cute. These mudpuppy salamanders are somewhat rare. They are also the collateral damage when the state applies lampricide to kill off the "parasitic lamprey that harm or kill fish". Apparently, the population of harmful lamprey has increased, endangering the lake sturgeon in Lake Champlain

The same pic is in the article in the link. If I find any mudpuppies next year, I'll be sure to post my own pics of them, in the water! I probably won't be holding one--I don't know if it's a good idea to pick up a live one--don't want to hurt or frighten it. If I find a dead one, I'll report it to the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife in case they are still tracking the effects of the lampricide.
It's too cold now to go messing around in the river.
