In the second one, I thought maybe at the end she'd turn out to be deaf, (which would totally solve the problem of maybe he didn't have a girlfriend because he has a voice like Mr Bean sucking helium.)

Nope, not the only one feeling a Merlin vibe; I felt the same way with both when I first saw them. I think for the first one (when I saw it in the theaters), even my brother said it would be a nice Merlin AU, lol!
