First off, I didn't watch the video. I'll say that right up front.
But, I have a couple of things to bring to the table on this issue. What's happening here is a re-framing of the political debate only. To be as clear as possible so that we're on the same page semantically - There is no medically recognized procedure known as "partial-birth abortion". There are a few variations on the Intact Dilation and Extraction, but it is illegal under Fedral Law for the fetus to be extracted while alive. In almost all cases a significant amount of morphine is delivered en utero to terminate heart function prior to the extraction procedure. Current statistics show that Late term abortions (after 21 weeks) as a whole make up 1.4% of all terminations, and the ID&X is the procedure used in about 15% of those terminations. It should also be noted that Intact Dilation and Extraction is a controversial procedure even among medical professionals, many will not perform the procedure at all. 40 States and the District of Columbia already have third

In rereading my comment I don't think that I was as clear as I could be. I think late term abortion is horrible, and there really isn't anything good to be said for it, except when it saves the life of the mother, or the fetus could not be viable on it's own. On a personal level, I'm deeply pro-life. I want kids, I'm chomping at the bit for them, and the girl keeps telling me to settle down. That being said, I hope I didn't come off harsh or disrespectful, I just really get my knickers in a twist over the way people use language to cloud and obscure an already deeply emotionally charged issue.
That is so fucking sick and horifyingweezel365September 22 2008, 07:32:15 UTC
I don't even want to do a SECS and PEACE rant about it. I might though... I have a lot to say about children in an upcoming rant.
Ya know, politicians might do one thing or another for whatever reason... but that... I don't want to hear a news report about why Barack Obama would approve or deny this happening. I wanna know how we as a people can stop it from ever happening AGAIN. Yeah? I mean, despite my stance on free thinking and pro choice and pro adoption, there's no reason, there's NO FUCKING REASON that a sentient baby that has breathed in the sweet air of life should sit........... and wait................. and not be loved.
And die.
I have to repost this. I'm full of fuckin' anger now.

This is a rumor. A persistent rumor, but just a rumor. There is no documented evidence that this practice happens anywhere in the U.S. This rumor has circulated for years - I remember Kerry getting a taste of this when he ran
