Depending on age, it could be just an adjustment of the eyebeam and current on the laser. Usually, that adjustment could be made and get another year or so of use out of it. (Not always but most of the time.)
Of course, buying a re-furb for $90 is a great backup. (Hihgly recommend getting the extended warranty if you do.)

Ours died about a year ago - and we also used it for both DVDs and games.
There is a GameStop at the new retail area on Howell Mill, near the PetsMart and Office Depot. They might have a good price on a used one...
