Book recommendation

I'm not even finished with this book, but it is by far the best piece of fiction I have read in years, possibly ever.
People probably know that I love Dave Duncan's writing. I'm saddened that more people don't read and appreciate his work. I push books by him on people. Once, I even started a fan club. (It died.)

Only in the poetry of the language.

When I'm done, you can take it out of the library.

I read it when it was new, and really enjoyed many aspects of the book. I read almost no old-fashioned epic fantasy any more, but he does a great job of telling his story. I remember being particularly impressed with the care and detail that went into creating the academic environment. I should have finished the lj post recommending it back when I first read it.

I may have to re-read it when the sequel finally comes out, because I can never remember plots (which is part of why I'm reluctant to fey caught up in a not-yet-finished series), but that shouldn't me a hardship.
