Torture

I'm getting physically sick reading about how we, as Americans, tortured. I've resolved to stop reading about it, but I really do not respect Obama right now. We need to have Bush, Cheney, etc. tried for war crimes ( Read more... )

I agree overall, but I think he's doing this the right way. He's letting it go through the justice department and not spearheading what will look like a partisan crusade. As is, the Right (unsurprisingly) is already starting to rise up and make a stink about all this. I think Obama wants to make sure that there can be be questions or accusing that he's the driving force. Rather, the Judicial Branch did it's job and prosecuted the right way.

As is, I'm not sure HOW Bush and crony crew can defend the statements that came out about the pressure that interrogators were getting applied to them to get some link between Saddam/Iraq and Al-Queda to help justify us going in there.

It is indeed awful...have you considered getting involved? powerfrau April 24 2009, 04:14:50 UTC
You have two choices: 1. Do something about it or 2. Stop reading it.
Otherwise it will eat you alive -- you feel very deeply, but it is like impaling yourself. At some point, it helps to shield the things out that will torment you--for your own sake....

Perhaps that will help you sleep better at night. There were things that I documented in the military that were pretty upsetting. I had to put a lot of distance between me and it. It took years. Our photo lab produced documentation for trials for violent crimes/autopsies--which tells you more than you need to know. I know the documentation for some things, like child abuse, I can't get anywhere near -- too close to home. I stick to the environment which does keep me awake at night sometimes--but doesn't make me feel ill. (perhaps if I knew more, I would) Be well.
