In other words, people who are inherently decent are easily manipulated. I would still rather be decent and think well of others, even if it means I can occasionally be taken advantage of. It's a lousy world if we have to view every interaction with suspicion.

Despite all this, when someone stops me on the street with a sob story and asks for money, I keep my wallet in my pocket.
