Salt Lake City (Fifth day)

There wasn't as much to do in Salt Lake City as I thought there would be. I took the hotel for two nights (last night and tonight), so I'm staying, but that may have been a mistake ( Read more... )

I went on a trip recently (to Naples) and realized that I had forgotten my camera. It felt really strange to be walking around tourist sites and not taking pictures. It's just what you do when you're sightseeing.

Amateur photography reaches a ridiculous extreme when people take videos of immobile objects.

I remember going to a slide show once where someone was talking about his mountain climbing trip. About 20 times each day, he took a photo of the top of the mountain from wherever he was. Few or no photos of the glacier, his campsite, his companions...

It's hard to take a photo that represents my experiences specifically, rather than snapping a picture of the most famous thing I can see. I try to remember to take more pictures of companions, and yes even my car. A pic of your car in Arches would be great.

It's surprising how well it works to hold the camera at arm's length a take a photo of yourself (surprising, because it shouldn't work at all).
