2011 Emmy Nominations: Comedy Categories

Jul 13, 2011 22:04

Getting the rest of my predictions up before the nominations get announced tomorrow :)

Key: + means predicted frontrunner. Mostly Modern Family is set to clean up again.

I also added my personal picks for the Supporting Categories and my personal picks for Lead winners.

Comedy Series:
30 Rock
The Big C
Modern Family+
Parks and Recreation
Hot in Cleveland (I can actually see this show replacing The Office in the nominees. The Emmys are a weird place.)
Glee (A lot of people have Big Bang Theory here but the Emmys will have to prove to me that they're for sure dropping Glee noms before I'll risk it)

Supporting Actor:
Eric Stonestreet
Ty Burrell+
Ed O'Neill
Neil Patrick Harris
Jon Cryer (sympathy votes)
Chris Colfer (sorry Nick Offerman and Danny Pudi. Just can't see them dropping all of the Glee nominees and no one's tired of Modern Family yet. If the Emmys were intelligent, Colfer would be off and Offerman would be on.)

My Picks:
Jason Segal
Donald Glover
Danny Pudi
Nick Offerman
Chris Pratt
Simon Helberg

As fabulous as Neil Patrick Harris is, I actually dropped him from my picks so I could include Simon Helberg. He's really had some great stuff the past couple of seasons and deserves some recognition. In my imaginary Emmys, Nick Offerman would win. Ron Swanson is unbeatable.

Supporting Actress:
Sofia Vergara+
Julie Bowen
Jane Lynch
Kristin Wiig
Betty White
Wendie Malick
(Hot in Cleveland is likely to get more love than I originally anticipated. I'm not sold that Holland Taylor will get enough sympathy votes in this competitive of a category to earn a nomination. Kristin Wiig has had a BIG year. I'd be hardpressed to drop her from this list. I can see Jane Krakowski being dropped to make room for Hot in Cleveland. Her chances of winning have never increased so they may leave her off to allow for others. If the Emmys were diplomatic, Bowen and/or Malick would be off and Alison Brie and/or Mayim Bialik would be on. My preference lies with Brie.)

My Picks:
Sofia Vergara
Jane Lynch
Alison Brie
Mayim Bialik
Busy Phillips
Gillian Jacobs

If I'm not being diplomatic, I would drop Sofia Vergara for Yvette Nicole Brown since I don't even watch Modern Family (yet). Melissa Rauch is also fabulous. And Kaley Cuoco may count as Leading but I think she fits the description of 'Supporting' more. In every scene she makes the others shine. She makes Sheldon's character tolerable and even relatable. She helped the writers and the audience learn who Amy is and accept her (and actually fall in love with her). She keeps the guys' nerdiness in check and she was sorely missed when she was out with her broken leg. So I guess in my *ideal* Emmys, I would submit Gillian and Alison under leading and bring Kaley and Yvette into my supporting picks. As my imaginary Emmys stand here, Alison Brie would win no contest. Watch Conspiracy Theories and A Fistful of Paintballs if you don't agree. (Specifically watch the 'blowing everything off' scene in Conspiracy Theories. She kills me in it every time!)

Lead Actress:
Laura Linney+ (frontrunner)
Amy Poehler* (who I would pick to win)

Lead Actor:
Jim Parsons+ (frontrunner)
Jim Parsons* (who I would pick to win. Yes I would pick Jim still. No offense to Steve Carell or Joel McHale.)

2011 emmys, parks and recreation, big bang theory, community
