Another Day at "The Office"

Well I finally got to see the American version of "The Office" last night. Ricky Gervais is one of the executive producers, and obviously had a hand in the casting. So why did things seem to go so awry ( Read more... )

Did you catch the bit in the documentary about the Brit version where the directors had originally wanted a hulking brute in the Gareth role?

I'm glad they were swayed in the end.

Or....they could have just left it well enough alone. The British version rocked, just leave
it alone!

These days, Mark Burnett is the new Norman Lear.

I can see some value in "translating" it for American consumption, but for Pete's sake, they shouldn't do it unless they have a clear understanding of why the original is so appealing.
