So I might be making a change in career. Nothing ever panned out with getting an office-type job, or with applying at banks, but one of my employees told me that Starbucks is hiring for management. I told her she could give the recruiter my name, and he called today. They sound like a good place, actually, and if I were to get the position it might ( Read more... )

The Employment Standards Act in your Province will have rules for amount of notice required, and I'm not sure what an "at will" position is by law, but if it's just they don't need to supply cause for termination (which seems really weird) they should still be bound by the Employment Standards Act re: termination notice, and after working there three months they should have to give you at least a week or you can take them to a tribunal. Look up "employment standards termination factsheet" for your Province.

There are also sites that people can report on quality of work environment, if you google around you could find one for Starbucks and see what people have to say about working there.

Definitely be up front with them about any health restrictions you have, including the standing issue. They may be able to set something up to work around them.

I'm still chugging through season 8, I'm down to the last two episodes.

They seem to really want me, and are offering me 30% more than Indigo (current evil employers) is paying me, even after working there 11 years ( ... )

I got the job! And if you are ever desperate, you can actually make a living wage in Starbucks management, plus quarterly bonuses, benefits, stock options, and (in Canada, anyway) Registered Savings Plans contribution matching at a decent rate.

Apparently they LOVED me. The recruiter told me today that he and my District Manager-to-be had a brief conversation after I left the interview and decided on the spot that the job was mine (once I pass the background check, which should be no problem as I have no criminal record or anything weird, just a mortgage and a personal loan I'm paying off). I was offered 30% above my current wage, because they asked what I was making currently, I told them my annual salary and that if I bonused all year it would be an extra $10,000, so they said they wanted to start me above what that total amount would be. I can bonus up to 15% per quarter, I have full health/dental/vision/para-medical (physio, massage, chiro, etc) benefits, and stock options PLUS free drinks all day while on shift, 30% off any non-consumable (drinks/snacks) I buy to take home, 30% off when I'm not working, I can give my discount to my friends when they come in with me, and a pound of free coffee (or a pack of K-Cups for my Keurig, or tea, whatever they sell in large-size ( ... )
