Things he said
Things he said.
There is nothing wrong with my ego. I know I am a genius. But today I was outsmarted by my boyfriend. I knew he was intelligent and great with people. But today he showed me the true talent he has in conversations. I could not be prouder that this man was going to a verbal battle with my chief of staff for me. Or even better for us.
But let me explain.
Good old Bob gave me an ultimatum that I was not happy with. Since he was trying to sell the hospital to Envicta he was worried about my relationship with Luke. He told me to choose between my relationship or my job. A choice I could not easily make. I was trying to figure out how I could convince Luke to lay low until I could figure out how to deal with this.
Unfortunately Bob told Luke in a degrading manner that he must surely understand why he would ask me to brake things of with him. Before I knew it. I had to follow my very angry boyfriend outside of the hospital.
He was fuming when i suggested whe could keep our relationship a secret for a little while. He even turned and walked away.
Off course I went after him but he had just made two steps before he apparently relaxed again. He turned around and asked me to go find Bob and have a proper conversation with all three of us.
He asked Kim Hughes to continue showing Mona the hospital because something important came up. He took a very surprised Bob into his own office and politely asked him to take a seat.
These are some of the things he said
○ I am under the impression that you assume we would stop seeing each other instead of finding another solution. What a silly conclusion.
○ Since Reid is the most talented neurology surgeon of his generation in the United States he will have no problem finding a different hospital to work for.
○ Do you realize that my donation to the neurology wing is based on the fact that Doctor Reid Oliver would manage this. As is stated in the contract we signed.
○ If doctor Oliver would decide that he wanted to start a private clinic who specialises in Neurology in Oakdale with the money from my foundation, that would be within the agreements disused within the contract concerning my foundation. Of course you will keep Henry his donation. That would just about cover the building cost for the wing. But off course not much else.
○ Do you believe that without your talented surgeon and my part of the donation to the new wing Envicta would still be interested?
○Do you realize that 40 precent of the money your hospital has received in donation in the last decade has come from my close family. Not even counting my own contribution. They would not apreciatted your suggestion that it might help with the selling of your hospital if your most talented doctor dumps their son or grandson.
○Do you realize that this whole discussion could have been avoided if one of you two came to the conclusion that I could easily resign as a board member. There would have been no need for Reid to stop working for you. As there would be no reason for us to end our relationship.
○We will be waiting to hear back from you when you have thought more about what your next step will be. Since ending our relationship is not an option.
Luke took my hand and we left a flabbergasted Bob Hughes in his office.
As soon as we turned around the corner Luke had a shy smile on his face.
"Was I to harsh Reid, I would hate it if he was insulted" he asked me.
Before I could react Bob came to talk to us. He apologized for not thinking things trough. If Luke would be open to maybe stepping down from the board if it would be required, that would be a very apreciatted effort. But he promised he would make sure that Envicta knew how much having Luke on the hospital board would benefit the hospital. He made sure I knew how much he wanted me to stay at memorial. He even promised me a tenure contract.
Whe had to play prancing pony for the benefit of Mrs Mona Cross for the rest of the day.
But later that day I finally could show my appreciation for Luke his brilliant conversation skills. Two times.
