Luke came home after three days of living back at the lilypad. He was released earlier than expected from the hospital, and there where a few surgeries Reid could not postpone.
When he walked in he was a little bit sad that apparently the doctor wasnt in yet. He lay down on the couch trying to take a nap. He was feeling fine except for a little fatigue. He fell asleep soon and did not notice his lover coming in taking a few items with him and walk out again.
He woke up when he felt a kiss on his cheek and a soft voice "wake up sleeping beauty we have somewhere to go". Reid helped Luke get up from the couch and took him by the hand to leave their apartment. "Where are we going Reid" Luke asked "To the roof" Reid said back with a crooked smile and a confident voice.
Luke's never been on the roof before but he remember explaining his love for the roof on the hospital. The open sky and the noises of the traffic just a soft far away sound. It reminds him of the pond on a windy day. But when Reid opened the door to their roof he wasn't expecting this view. He was amazed at the sight in front of him. Reid put out two comfortable chairs and a table next to a fire grill. he even saw two terrace heaters.
Reid was worried Luke was being so quit. "It is supposed to be a good night to look at the stars today. There is going to be a Persuade meteor shower so I thought that we could sit and eat here for a while. If you want to that is". Luke just took Reid his hand and gave it a squeeze. "This is great Reid, I love it. What a nice idea" and gave Reid one of those smiles where his dimples where on display. They looked even better with the light of the fire.
Reid looked smug now. "Sit down and ill feed you". He gently pushed Luke in a chair and put two big hamburgers and two corn cobs on the grill. Before he sat down himself he got an cooler out and gave Luke a bottle of water and his medicine.
"I would not forget Reid. You can give me some credit" Luke was looking away from Reid with a small frown. "I know you wouldn't but I did not want you to go back to the apartment so soon. Why are you upset". Reid turned the food while looking at Luke with some concern. "I can take care of myself you know, You did not have to ask my mother if I could move back home because you had to work, I would have been fine here".
Reid put his hand on Luke his cheek and gently made him look back in his eyes. "Luke you probably would have been fine, but I would have worried about you so much that it could make me loose focus on the patients that needed me. Your mother promised she would check on you every hour and would call me if she had doubts about your temperature or anything else. You where fine but I needed to know someone was watching you when I could not be here. Even if it meant missing you for a while".
Luke gave back a small smile. After a while he said "I thought that you had enough of all the troubles that being with me brings. That you needed a break from me and taking care of me. You where so nice to me in the hospital. I took up all your free time, I am sorry that I was an inconvenience".
Reid was putting the burgers on the buns he had prepared on their plates next to the corn and sett them down to cool. His mind was working overtime thinking back to the days in the hospital. How could Luke get his motivation so wrong. He remembered catching up with Luke over their joined meals in Luke his room. They where good memories to him.
He remembered doctor West coming telling them Luke was doing great and could go home the next day. Reid felt releaved that Luke was doing good but now remembered saying "right I will make some arrangement, see you later" and walked out. Coming back an hour later sitting down in the chair next to the bed lifting his feet on the bed saying "All is taken care of, your mom will pick you up at ten tomorrow and drop you at the apartment Friday around five. Are you eating that pudding?".
"Crap I never even talked to you, I just made it work for me. Luke I am sorry. I was so busy trying to make it work for me I never thought about asking you what you wanted. But please know that it never was about me needing some time away from you. I hated coming home to our home without you in it". He took Luke his hand and squeezed it he looked gorgeous with the light from the fire on his face. He looked so pale just after the surgery. "I want to be with you, always. I just was focused on making everything work together. The surgeries, chief off staff crap and I wanted you taken care of".
"Casey likes to tease me with our age difference but you always made me feel an equal in our relationship. I was so surprised that you asked my opinion on everything even when things with Chris where bad. I was just hurt that you left me out this time. I would have loved to stay here and maybe hire someone to help me when you where at work so you would not worry to much". Luke was feeling a lot better hearing Reid apologize.
"Damn that would be even better, I was an Idiot". Reid rolled his eyes.
"Look Reid I am not looking for a fight. I snapped at you because it made me sad and insecure. But it was the thirst time in eight months that you did not ask my opinion on something that would effect the both of us. That was when Bob came to you with that ultimatum that nearly destroyed us. I should have said something at the hospital. I just felt insecure. I am not used to feeling that way with you. Are we good?
"We are great" Reid gave Luke a soft kiss and handed him his plate. "We both learned we should talk more. l should listen to you always. I could have kept you here with a private nurse. We will do that when your own kidneys go back in. And you will share your concerns and brilliant ideas next time I am an idiot you idiot".
"Yes I will. Luke felt his heart swell. It felt so easy being in a relationship with Reid. The food was good the company even better and Reid did not have to go back to work until Tuesday. Minus the calls and short possible trips to the hospital to check on the recovering patients. This was a good start of the weekend.
After they finished their meal. Reid put some more wood on the fire grill he gave Luke and himself a blanket and pushed their chairs together. They leaned close together Reid his arm over Luke his shoulder. They showed each other the meteors they spotted. Reid used an app on his tablet to show Luke the stars trough technology. Luke used his finger to point out constellations.
They where content to just sit there together in the dark. With the warm glow of the fire grill.
