Story: Reid left after he quit his job and saw Luke with Noah. They meet in New York.
A short chapter this time
Reid was still dealing with all the information Katie had told him when he ran into Luke again in the hospital elevator. Reid was just pushing his floor’s button when Luke entered and stood next to him, pushing his own button.
"Luke," Reid said as he turned around.
"Doctor Oliver," Luke answered back.
"Please don’t call me that anymore, Luke," Reid said with pleading eyes.
Luke let out a big sigh. "I don't know what you want from me. Yesterday you seemed upset that I was sitting in a coffee bar. Today you don't want me to call you Doctor Oliver. Please tell me what you want so I can do that the next time I bump into you. Should I have taken the next elevator or what?”
"Have dinner with me," Reid said. "Please."
"What?" Luke looked very surprised. "Why should I do that?"
The elevator stopped at Reid’s floor, but Reid couldn’t leave now. "I owe you an explanation, and as it turns out, probably an apology. I can’t give you one without the other and I need more time than just a short ride on an elevator. Please Luke, have dinner with me.”
Reid looked so desperate that Luke couldn’t say no. Plus he had always wanted to know what had happened for Reid to have changed so much in a couple of hours that day he announced he was leaving Oakdale. After a short silence, Luke managed to say, "I’m free tonight."
Reid surprised Luke by giving him one of the biggest smiles he had ever seen on the doctor’s face. "Thanks so much, Luke. Shall we meet at seven at the coffeehouse and just see where we‘re going from there?”
Luke was still a bit shocked by the question so he could only nod. The elevator stopped at the floor where Luke needed to get off.
"So I’ll see you later," Luke said as he stepped out of the elevator.
"Definitely." Reid was still smiling when the elevator doors closed again.
