Story: Reid left after he quit his job and saw Luke with Noah. They meet in New York. Reid wants to appologise.

Reid waited at the same table where Luke had sat the last time. He had arrived early at the coffeehouse because he wanted to be ready for his talk with Luke. He had left work on time so he could go home to change into something nice and shave again. He was nervous.

When he left Luke in Oakdale, he hadn’t been this anxious. But he had been so angry that he tried to hurt Luke by telling him he didn’t mean anything to him. Even worse, he had told Luke, “You were just a blip on my radar." Now Reid knew he had been an idiot. He wasn’t used to being one. Luke really had taken him out of his comfort zone, but oddly enough he hadn’t even minded.

He didn’t have to wait long for Luke to arrive. Reid smiled when he saw that Luke had made himself look good too. Or at least Reid thought Luke looked hot, wearing a nice chocolate-colored shirt that set off his long blond hair. Reid was very glad this handsome man was willing to meet with him.

When Luke spotted Reid, he flashed a quick smile. Not as big a smile as Reid was used to, but it was still nice.

"Hello," Luke said as he sat down.

"Luke, I’m so glad you wanted to meet me. Do you want to talk here or head out?"

"I’d like to hear what you have to say now, if you don't mind, Doctor." Luke hung his coat over the back of the chair. "I don’t want to keep you if you have to make another hasty exit. But I’d like to hear your explanation about the last time you walked out on me, on us".

Reid was glad to see that although Luke’s words were harsh, he still looked at him with a kind expression. Maybe Katie was right about Luke being more forgiving than anyone else would be. "I earned that Luke, but I promise you that I won’t go away unless you send me. What do you remember of the last two times we saw each other in Oakdale?"

Luke frowned at Reid before he started. "Bob came to talk to me to say he was sorry that we had to end our relationship because of Invicta’s policies. I hadn’t heard anything about this from you, so when I walked out of the hospital, I was pretty angry. You followed me out, saying that we could just lay low for a while. I was upset that you didn’t want to fight for us as well as angry at Bob because of the stupid ultimatum so I felt like I had to leave before I lost my temper and said something that I couldn’t take back. Then I ran into Noah at Java and he told me you had quit your job. For a minute there, I thought you quit so that we could be together, but when I went to hear what happened, you were packing your bag and telling me I was just a blip on your radar."

"See, you are missing some information. I did quit because of you. Bob shouldn’t have given us that ultimatum, but I should have quit on the spot. I’m not easily replaced, so either he would’ve had to ask me to come back or I could’ve found a different job. But when I went looking for you at Java, I saw you all cozied up and laughing with Noah. I assumed you went back to him because we had a big fight. You walked away from me and it looked like you immediately ran to him. I’m so sorry, Luke. I told Katie never to mention you, and I even dodged her calls sometimes because I didn’t want to hear about your happy reunion. Until I saw you here and talked to Katie afterwards, I didn’t realize you never dumped me that day. I screwed up. I was an idiot."

Luke was silent after that and just looked at Reid as if he just saw him grow an antler on his head. Suddenly he stood up and left the table. Reid would have been worried if Luke hadn’t left his coat on the chair while pacing to and fro in the back of the coffeehouse. Reid gave Luke a couple of minutes before he walked over to him, gently took his hand and led him back to his chair.

"So that’s it. The big reason why you left me. You thought so little of me that your brilliant mind couldn’t think of any other reason why I would talk to my ex-boyfriend, whom you knew I wanted to stay friends with. Damn you, Reid." Luke bashed his fists on the table. "How could you think that? I thought you got enough of me or just hated my reaction and thought I was too whiny. I felt so ......... worthless. Just a blip. Easy to leave behind and forget. After I became ill, I even went to see a psychiatrist. I was so depressed that I didn’t take care of myself anymore. Grandmother became worried and talked me into going."

"I am so very sorry, Luke. You must know you were more than a blip to me."

"How, Reid?" Luke shook his head. "You didn’t mention Bob’s ultimatum until he did and if I hadn't come to see you, I would have had to find out from Katie that you left Oakdale and me. I just don’t understand you, Reid. Why didn't you just talk to me?"

"You’re right. I was an idiot. I owe you a lot of apologies. If I could turn back the hands of time, I would definitely make a lot of different choices."

Reid took Luke’s hand and put his other hand on Luke’s cheek, making sure Luke was looking at him. "I screwed up, and for that I’m so sorry. I would love for us to find a way back to each other, but I understand that you might not ever trust me enough again. But I hope we can become closer, even if it’s just as friends. I want you to know how proud I am of you and all that you’ve done, especially after my stupid mistake. I’d still love to take you out for dinner. Please Luke, can we try to get to know each other again? And there is the fact that I’m hungry."

Luke let out a small laugh. "You realize that you will be paying for this dinner. I believe you owe me at least a lobster dinner or some really good sushi.”

"I think you deserve a very nice meal. I’d be very happy to take you out."

Reid got up and offered his hand to Luke. Luke got up took the hand and they walked out of the coffee shop together.

Luke wasn’t sure if he was making the right decision, but he was willing to take a chance.
