umm.

Ok, I have been out of the country for about a month, but I feel a little out of the loop. When I left, the Obama-love was still thick in the air. Now it seems like everyone's pissed off. What's going on? Why would parents be freaking out about the president addressing the nation's kids?

Welll... republicans have always hated him. Democrats are losing hope. He's let down the gays, minorly playing to the republicans, doing a half assed job shutting down gitmo... *sigh* he is a politician.

Isn't it amazing how quickly all that stuff fades into the background when you're not actually there? I didn't even know what Obama's voice sounded like until after he was president. I'd only ever seen him on the internet, in text and photos.

Yeah, it really is. All I watch these days is English satellite channels from UAE and they just play movies and stuff, so when I want to find out what's going on I have to actually go looking for it. Then I feel like I have just stumbled into a movie halfway through and have no idea what's going on.

Dude I've been here and I have no clue!

Though from what I've read, it sounds like the right just being a little weird.

It's quite simple, the "conservatives" think Obama is a Socialist and they are scared that one speech will turn their kids into Socialists.

As a parent yourself, are you ever concerned that your child will grow up not like you? I don't know, 'cause I don't have kids.. But if I did, I would hope they would make their own decisions in life and not rely on me to make those decisions for them.

The short of it, people are stupid.

The speech issue in general = the WH is saying it's just gonna be a stay in school, work hard, motivational thing. Since they didn't release it yet (they will Monday) the ones who hate Obama think it's really some policy brainwashing thing and say releasing it online a day early isn't enough time for them to decide.

Obama non love in general? Well the true haters have always been there. The just less than happy types = he's getting flaky on the Dems, one day he's yes Public option next it's out... etc. Which is what he's been focussed on. Then more conservative types are mad that he's letting the Justice Dept investigate torture that went beyond even what Bush / Cheney okay'd. He's got all sides going uh what?

I don't really get it, and I understand that lots of people are not going to like Obama, or anyone else in the White House.

But it did seem to boil over fast...there has to be something else behind it, but I can't quite guess what.
