GDP only measures goods upon their year of production. that doesn't mean there isnt any other economic activity going on.
For example, if a car is sold, it is counted in the GDP. if the person doesn't like it and sells it to someone else, that transaction isnt counted.
GDP is primarily a measure of growth. Ask an econ teacher. I believe Stivender teaches at UNCC?
I hate the GDP for that. It's used in so many ploys for charity (dont get me wrong we could give more) but it's a bit of a lie. It misses out on alot of economic activity.
countries should worry about themselves first, unless every country is being so giving. there are places and people right here in america that need just as much help as people in africa or whatever, but they get overlooked bc they already live here. the world isnt fair, some countries will always be poorer than others.
I agree with what all you are saying. I know GDP measures growth and there are other factors to look into that are better indicators of poverty in developing countries. But it is like Pope John Paul said best at Yankee Stadium, "Its not right that the standard of living of the rich countries should seek to maintain itself by draining off a great part of the reserves of energy and raw materials that are meant for the whole of humanity. You are the rich man and Lazarus is at your gate, and it's the Third World. Thats scary! We as americans decry our excess of capitalism." And what he said is soo true!
