Christmastime and Poetry: Part 1

Well, only a month and a few days away before Christmas is upon us. It can be a little stressful at times when it is thought about...the fact that it can loom so quickly over our heads after it has snuck up on us. If only we could have taken our cue from the incessant Bing Crosby and that voice of his reverberating throught every store by mid- ( Read more... )

I like your thought of incorporating the Christmas season in with your blog. A little Christmas spirit is always welcomed...especially during this very stressful time of year. I also like the fact that you chose a poem that related to a simplified way of viewing Christmas. These days the idea has become less about family and spending time together and more about the commercialized view of this holiday. It is always nice to remember the past.

Hey Amy,
Thank you for that burst of Christmas spirit. With exams and everything the joy of Christmas appears to have taken a back seat. I enjoyed your poem, it was a warm and touching thought about how the true meaning of Christmas is family and being with the ones you love. The tree is just a way of getting the family together at this time of the year…I feel!

Christmas is coming; so much to do, so little time. Similar to Jenna and Shali, I appreciate your inclusion of a Christmas poem. I think the season has become so commercialized and non-denominational in every aspect that we forget what it has traditionally been about. Christmas has definitely become 'normal' and contrived for a lot of people. I enjoy the aspect of tradition in the poem, because it makes Christmas something to look forward to instead of something to get through. It has a jingle-type rhythm to it, much like "The Night Before Christmas." The imagery is sentimental without being overbearing.
Thank you for the post :)
