I will admit, although I usually prefer not to tell anyone until after, that my twentith birthday is this coming Saturday. And my oh my, do I not only feel like writing about it, but I despise it's arrival. Why? Well, without naming names or giving too much detail, I'll say that life changed awfully fast and is just not the same without a certain ( Read more... )

Happy Birthday Amy! shali1 January 28 2006, 15:16:47 UTC
Hey Amy,
I guess what I saw as I read this poem is mainly, if not the same image as you. I saw however a man who looks optimistic about being 30, because he still manages to make a wish. He notices the possibly aging trees and he feels that if they are surviving under this sunlight then maybe it’s worth making a wish to. Or, it could be very young looking tress that glistens under this sunlight, and the beauty that appears is what has this man feeling young and vibrate. He feels like a child once more, so he makes a wish, seeing as how the tress resembles candles, when under the sunlight.

I like the fact that this poem is very versatile. You could replace the age of thirty with really any age. The poems substance allows it to be interpreted in regards to how you in vision the word choice and use. Although it is short, it still accomplishes what the poet wants it to. I know that one of my best friends is turning 20 in 5 days time. She is almost struggling with this milestone age change. I think she finds it especially difficult because our other best friends as well as myself have all just turned 19 (we all have September or November birthdays). I think she just has to realize that age is just a number and reaching the all important 2 0 does not mean an end to everything great about being considered a teenager.
Best Wishes on your Birthday Amy! Happy 20th!
