Naming characters

I had to figure out how to name specific races in WoW... and generally what names are good for specific races. There's a lot more freedom in the Alliance races... but these are just a few different ideas as to what would be good names for specific races. Of course, there are exceptions. ;) And please feel free to add to the list. ;)

Amynnah was my brainfart baby. She has a default name, and is the only one of my characters who has one.
Here are some of the names of my other characters if you need ideas:

Coganta - Troll Warrior - Gaelic for "warlike"
Mambea - Tauren Druid - Book of Angels
Lamassu - Troll Huntress - Book of Angels
Shekinah - Nelf Huntress - Book of Angels
Risnuch - Tauren Druid - Book of Angels
Neria - Human Rogue - made-up name
Annsachd - Nelf Priestess - Gaelic for "favorite"
Benatiel - Nelf Hunter - changed slightly from "Beratiel" - Book of Angels
Nuntius - Troll Shaman - Latin for "messenger"

This is a good site for Irish/Gaelic names. They have both male and female names. These would be good for Humans, Nelves, and possibly Dwarves.

Latin words. Good place if you want a cool-sounding, graceful name. Nouns (dagger, sword, stave, etc.) make decent names. ;) Good for Undead.

German names. This would be good for Dwarves and Gnomes.

African names. Good names for Orcs and Trolls.

Native American names. Good for Tauren.

Scandinavian names. Good for Dwarves. Some Humans.

Tolkien names. EXCELLENT source for Night Elf, and Blood Elf, names.

Don't know much about the Draenai yet (you can probably guess from my atrocious spelling)... but I'm going to suggest Masculine Arabic names and Feminine Arabic names for now. They're unusual, and seem to fit. I'd also use an Arabic name for a Troll. ;)

Old English names. Germanic and Norse are also in here. Good for Dwarves, Gnomes, and Humans.

Norse names. Dwarf, some Elven.

Aztec names. Troll. Possibly Draenai.

By the way, I HIGHLY recommend the Dictionary of Angels. I've used it for many of my character names... and it's an excellent, interesting resource. ;)
