If Transformers Prime really goes through with it (possible spoilers)
I'm posting over here because this is where the TF fans are (hi guys)
So my husband and I were having an argument...
I asked him, If there isn't some kind of deus ex machina last minute save of Optimus Prime, he really dies, and Smokescreen becomes the next Prime...what would his name be?
His vote was for Rodimus Prime, I'm guessing as a tribute to the old show, although he didn't say so in those words. But I said, that doesn't make any sense. Rod came from Hot Rod, there's no "Rod" in Smokescreen's name. There is no "Optimus" in Orion Pax either but Optimus is a cool sounding name whereas Rodimus sounds like it was pulled out of some writer's butt at the last minute.
So then my husband went on and on about how the original Ultra Magnus was supposed to be the next Prime after Optimus in the original TF but he couldn't get the--whatever it's called that bestows Prime-hood on an Autobot, I don't feel like Googling it right now--open. What does that have to do with anything? I said to him, if Ultra Magnus had been able to get it open, he could have become Magnus Prime. It makes sense and it sounds nice.
There is no derivation of Smokescreen that won't sound completely stupid--we were joking "Smokimus? Smoke-em-if-you-got-em-us?"--so my ultimate point is he could really be renamed anything at all, but diehard fans might be able to tell me if a particular name has a chance of being used or if it could be something completely new or different.
So, any ideas?
